Would love to acquire Laine. If he bounce back he would be quite an addition to montreal top 6. Playing in a big market under MSL coaching could be a big motivation for him. I would make a fair offer to try to make a deal if Colombus want to shed salary and add picks for their rebuild. I would offer winnipeg 1st rd pick and next year calgary 1st rd pick( which will be florida pick) and a young def in Harris

Not interested in someone who had a problem...and will face enormous pressures in Montreal.

And then give major assets to acquire him?

Hard pass.

I assume there are rules against trading players in the player assistance program?

Honest question. How do people know he’s still in the assistance program? Do they announce when players are out? Or just see if he shows up in October?

This. Players like Laine and PLD should never be a part of the Habs organization. They are not equipped to handle the pressure and expectations.

Although Laine would as a hab would be interesting, I don’t think he’ll succeed in the toughest market in the NHL.

Laine can only come back healthy. And if he is healthy, he is one of the top players in the NHL. It will be important that he doesn't have such an unfortunate injury.

If he can't handle the pressure in Ohio there's no way he can keep his mental health in check in Montreal
Of course not haha!
But, is there any evidence he's in the assistance program because of the pressure? I thought he had some kind of addiction.

Habs don't have the caproom and Laine bad attitude
We don't have the caproom during the summer but could acquire him once the season starts with Price contract on LTIR

I think Toronto is the toughest market.
Montreal isn't so bad now because the expectations for the team are not very high.
The team hired a players coach in Martin St.Louis and put a lot of efforts into supporting players off ice.

Do you realize what they'd pay to move that Gallagher contract?

Maybe you do and this is some clever bait.
Nothing. Cap space isn't a concern and the organization still clearly values him for his past contributions and leadership. He's got negative trade value, sure, but we're not paying anything to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

That’s recency bias. You’re forgetting the French media is bigger and louder and more critical all year round

I'd be up for it but Anderson would have to go back. Anderson + WPG pick + whoever of Struble/Barron/Harris but wouldn't be interested in going in heavier than that

Is there a Habs proposal that isn't trying to pawn off Stuble/Barron/Harris?
I mean look at Montreal's depth chart it's not exactly a secret they'll move a couple D. If Struble could play the right side I would rather keep him but he hasn't shown that ability and likely would have the most value, Harris I'd be fine if he sticks around as a 6/7. Barron I don't see a future for in Montreal

Yes, they are all #5/6/7 guys and risk being waiver fodder. Yet they are offered for elite players all the time

Habs have something like a 23 man roster with around $15M-$16M in cap room next season. This is with both Barron and Xhekaj on bridges (similar to Harris).

Also, in any Laine trade, salary is going the other way and I'd be asking for a little retention. I don't like the idea of having Laine or Dubois (for example) coming in with a higher cap hit than Suzuki.

Timing is the biggest problem for me. Laine for 2 years does nothing during our transition. Habs still have lots of youth developing.
