Hey my CBJ friends,

It looks like the Summer of Jarmo. Congratulations on securing another star & hope Patrik is a contender for the Rocket the next few years.

A good time to be a Blue Jackets fan

Jets fans after the trade: Laine will leave Columbus after year and Pierre-Luc Dubois will resign because he has his father in the organisation, trained in Winnipeg before this season.
Now... 👀

I don't think Winnipeg deserved this. Now just hoping that PLD will be well traded.

No NMC or NTC on first year. That's a bit suspicious. I'll be dead if they now move him. Jarmo would have big problems signing anyone if he pulled that off
Can't have NMC or NTC on the first year, because it's still his rfa year.

Edit: was already pointed out.

Meh, would have preferred an extra year or two at slightly more dollars (maybe 6 years at $9.25 AAV) but regardless, it’s good this is done.

Jarmo asked Laine to take less money to be able to surround him with better players so they shortened the term and brought down the money.

For Columbus this is very team friendly(low risk) and gives them a chance to extend Laine at the perfect age

The only thing I don't like about it is it gets him to UFA more quickly. But I think you're right that if it works out for Laine and club, he'll want to re-sign here in 4 years anyway. And if it doesn't, then it's a good thing it's only 4 years. I'm warming up more to the term the more I think about it.

Weird term but I get it...Laine can basically only shoot and is a very inconsistent player. But he has four years to go get paid even more (he'll only be 28 at the end of the deal).

If it doesn't work out because Laine stays inconsistent, they can move him in 3-3.5 years.

AAV is probably $1m too high (see: Fiala).

Oilers fan in peace (have always had a soft spot for your team and was pumped when you swept the Bolts, really wanted your team to go further)

Happy you guys were able to shock the hockey world and snag Gaudreau and happy that you've got Laine locked up. Those two are going to kill it on the PP together.

All the best :thumbu:

Good deal imo. Laine gave on the $ and Jarmo shortened the term is my guess. Who cares though? The 4 years carries him one year past when KJ, Marchenko & Sillinger have to be extended so there will be certainty of how many $ are available to re-sign him. he gets a chance for a big payday.

Contract is probably one year less and $750K per year more than I’d have liked which probably makes it a good landing spot for both parties. Very glad we retained Patrick!

Good job with the signing. It's funny, I'm usually wondering where the scoring is going to come from, now I'm wondering where the defense is coming from. Hopefully our guys take a step forward and play better D.

Let's hope this deal won't be less tradeable than a 2 or 3 year contract, which is what I would have preferred.

We are on the verge. Need good goal tending and the D to firm up we should have 2 killer PP's
Gaudreau's going to play on both units?

2 years past ELCs of KJ and Sillinger.

This is how I feel. But the term is short enough that Sillinger/Johnson can be bridged before their big payday, which will come after Laine/Bjork/Gudbranson contracts expire.

I was hoping for a 2 or 3 year extension but since Gaudreau hopped on board it makes it easier to imagine Laine thriving here. 4 years isn't a franchise killer if it doesn't work (cf. Skinner) and it probably does work and gives us more time with a potentially elite scoring duo.

Gaudreau's going to play on both units?

Why not? To me it seems silly that you wouldn't have Gaudreau and Laine out there for the full two minutes.

I hate the price, last thing I wanted out of the options but Seattle had the upper hand. Bjorkies contract was great

CBJ fans deserve this
What a brilliant move it was to trade PLD for Laine

And to think that Jarmo once dodged the Pulju bullet in the draft and took PLD instead which lead to what you said. Winnipeg would've not accepted a trade of Pulju for Laine+Roslovic, unless Columbus had developed Pulju better than Edmonton which is possible, but to developed Pulju to a star player back then was unlikely even by Columbus.
