Wouldn't be surprised if they player/agent wanted to keep the contract short term as they believe the cap will go back up and that Patty should have career years over the next 4 years. I take it as betting on himself now with a shorter time frame and smaller AAV, with the thought that in 4 years he'll be due for over 10MM.
