This is just a bad trade for you guys. I understand that every player in this trade wanted a change but....PLD is not worth a scoring title contender and a player with lots of potential. Covid has made everyone sell and buy for very low. BUT PLD is a great player. We played them last year in the qualifiers and PLD was clutch. You guys will love him when he’s on that’s for sure!

That's another aspect I don't see PLD commanding a ton. We could probably get him locked up long term for around Scheifele or Connor kind of money.
I think this is more important is a good add to the discussion. I think Chevy didn't like how negotiations went with Laine back when he was a RFA and knew Laine wanted a very big number on his next contract, beyond what the organization was willing/able to pay.

As a Finn and Laine fan, this makes me a little sad. I really liked the idea of Laine as a Jet and staying there long term, but the road got bumpy and I guess this was the only option. I was really hoping that the Jets and Laine would figure things out and he would be a key part of long term success. Oh well...

A) I am going to convince myself that Laine has chronic fragility issues to make this trade make sense. And I am going to focus on our strength down the middle.

And I have to say that I am impressed by Chevy's balls to actually do this deal which has at least medium probability of turning out to be the worst trade of the decade. Now, if A) turns out to be true, the trade makes sense.

There is a way that we end up with a very strong forward group out of this, if used properly.

Ehlers-Scheifele-Wheeler (yuck, but he’s our best RW I guess)
Connor-Dubois-Harkins
Copp-Statsny-Vesalainen
Anybody-Lowry-Appleton

We’ve gone from middling centre depth to great and great winger depth to mediocre. I suppose that’s reasonable.

If Laine wanted out, and i think its pretty clear now that he did, this is BY FAR the best outcome. A stud 22 year old 6'3 center that drives play and is already more defensively responsible than Scheifele. We now have arguably 2 of the top 20 centers in the league.

Whatever team, either Winnipeg or Columbus, is going to lose Laine after this season. He's injured and keeps getting injured. He's not happy. So get something in return for him this year and mix it up.

Roslovic leaving is inconsequential in the long run.

I'm more upset that Winnipeg is retaining 25% salary for Laine this season.

You're upset about someone else's money... ?

Come on Derf'... we have cap space and it's inconsequential to the Jets ownership it seems...

Be upset about not having Laine on our team... I know I am...

But it doesn't change the fact that is very true now and I didn't even want to believe it...

Laine didn't want to be here in Winnipeg.... :eviltongu

Yeah we will have some cap to work with on the other side of this deal to make more moves if we sign PLD long term. Allows us to bring in Perfetti on the wing without forcing him into center as well to start. Long term it creates some competition for C spots.

As sad as I am to lose Laine I think many people are losing sight of the the fact that PLD is in a fact a very good hockey player in his own right.

If get him to sign long term I can live with him and Scheifele as our top 6 Cs. Now I imagine Perfetti might be shifted to being developed as a winger as well.

Sucks to lose Laine, there was so much promise there after those first 2 seasons.

That said, they got a guy who can be a foundational piece back for him and it was a move that should go a long way better balancing the top-6. Not happy about it I don't think but I mean it's not Hall for Larsson.

This rips at the soul of the team. I hope they can prove us wrong but anchoring ourselves to the rapidly declining Wheeler and losing Laine because of it is beyond stupid. Quarantine means we need to wait two weeks to even see what we are getting. This really takes the wind out of fans sails. Losing Laine, realizing that this type of thing is bound to happen again. Explain to me why we had to trade Roslovic for a 3rd on top of this. Screwed on both fronts. We go from flush with wingers to pretty thin. Perfetti looked a LONG way from ready for the NHL at the juniors. He has talent no doubt but was getting shoved around by essentially every Jr he played against. It could be 3 years before he gets strong enough to play in the NHL. Sad day. FML

We still have some solid winger depth. Connor, Ehlers and Wheeler are better than a lot of teams top 6 wingers. Plus Perfetti coming up in the system.

Sad to see Laine go :( I think PLD is excellent but I think the deal skews slightly in favour of the Jackets. On the plus side, Scheifele/PLD/Stastny/Lowry is a wonderful C lineup. Personally, I was also a little bit worried that Laine's next contract would put Chevy in a position where he couldn't afford 4 big money wingers and Ehlers would have been the odd man out. Happy to avoid that potential issue as I think Fly is our best winger and on a beauty of a contract.

I'm sure there'll be a few 'good riddance to bad rubbish' posts coming up but I always admired the effort Laine put in and hope he does well in Columbus. I'll always remember his 3P/G final partial season with the Jets fondly :')

Am I right in thinking that Chevy can work on an extension with PLD after this season? I believe it was a 2 year extension he signed recently?

I am not emotionally attached to Laine at all. The guy publicly insulted his teammates in the past and asked to be traded. I am sure lots of players make trade requests but making them publicly? No bueno. Not upset in the slightest about moving on from him. I was more mad when we let Stempniak go than I am about trading Laine.

I hope Laine enjoys Columbus. I just hope he doesn't make comments in the public about how his linemates Bjorkstrand and Texier are not good enough for him. Torts is not gonna have the same patience with comments like this like Maurice did.

I am kinda chapped about Roslo being traded. He sucks as a player but I wanted to sit him all season just to make a point.

Roslo's going to have to play for Torts'...

That's better than him sitting...

He will be ridden' like Seattle Slew...
