I think once the initial shock settles I'm going to be okay with this, especially if PLD signs long term at a reasonable AAV.... But right now, losing a player like Patty stings.

That's another aspect I don't see PLD commanding a ton. We could probably get him locked up long term for around Scheifele or Connor kind of money.

The thought of Scheifele - Dubois at 1-2 is beyond exciting to me. We now have a legit, probably soon elite combo down the middle. This is what championship teams are made of. And, Dubois is a play driver. We’re a better team today with this trade, in my own opinion.

I think both Laine and Dubois will put up similar/same ballpark points, with Laine scoring more goals. But all in all I think they tap out as pretty equal. We’ll see how this post ages.

Scheifele - Dubois - Stastny - Lowry. Name a better team down the middle.

Lowry isn't play 4th line center. I'd expect Stastny to move to the wing.

I'm over pro sports being in Winnipeg, to be honest. I love sports. I love hockey. I hate the dynamic of trying to convince players to want to be here. Whether or not Laine's reasoning was related to geographical reasons or coaching, it's now the 3rd player (4th if you count Roslovic... I don't. f*** him, hope he goes nowhere in CLB - and I like that team a lot) who wants out of Winnipeg because it's a "shitty place to live." I knew I got too excited when the Jets won the lotto that year.

We're playing Moneyball like in Oakland. Frustrating to be a fan of a team that always has to fight uphill battles that live outside of the hockey dynamics.

Sad to lose Laine. I love unique talents and personalities. I wish him all the best.

I wish the Jets could have gotten more for Laine, but he was a bit of a difficult player to value.

I think this might improve the Jets' ability to compete for a cup because it fills a gaping hole in their roster, and PLD is still very young. The Jets are now near the top of the NHL at C. They are scary good down the middle.

The Jets are very strong in goal scoring talent with Connor, Scheifele, Ehlers, PLD and Perfetti in the pipeline. Basically, they can throw out two outstanding pairs in Scheifele-Connor and PLD-Ehlers, and supplement with Wheeler and eventually Perfetti. The Jets will miss Laine's PP contribution, but I doubt it will be a big drop-off with a new configuration.

Overall, I think this could work out very well for the Jets.

But I'm still sad to see Laine go.

Interestingly, I had a chat last evening with a couple of Jets fans that are more casual. Neither were all that concerned about losing Laine. They liked his scoring of course, but viewed him as an incomplete player.
I agree with this. I have nothing against Liane. I was glad a few years ago that Connor was signed long term, instead of Liane. I had a feeling Liane would want out within a couple of years. Steep price to pay - would have liked to get more than a 3rd round pick as the other piece, but it is what is...

Not sure how I feel about either side in all this. At the end of the day hockey is a business and people do what they feel is best for them. I'm saddened by losing a player like Laine, I truly like him and think he is a special, exciting player. I think it looks poorly on the Jets in how all this came to be. I'm also resentful of Laine in how he chose to handle this, it's soured me on him a bit.

Good luck to him though.

This is f***ing ridiculous. f***ing Maurice and Chevy can go f*** themselves. Bloody screwed us over just like Selanne. We just lost a future Rocket winner and face of our franchise (face it, Everyone around the league knows him, not just diehard fans but EVERYONE - major marketing and excitement factor). All for the dumbass pride of a f***ing shit nepotistic coach. f***ing shit.

Edit: I honestly never swear... Sorry, just really upset. :( I'm also surprised shit isn't censored. Oh well.

Tell us how you really feel...

One of the saddest and most lopsided trades ever.

The only way this can be a win for the Jets is that Laine's back problems prevent him to continue playing effectively.

Sucks.

I am not emotionally attached to Laine at all. The guy publicly insulted his teammates in the past and asked to be traded. I am sure lots of players make trade requests but making them publicly? No bueno. Not upset in the slightest about moving on from him. I was more mad when we let Stempniak go than I am about trading Laine.

I hope Laine enjoys Columbus. I just hope he doesn't make comments in the public about how his linemates Bjorkstrand and Texier are not good enough for him. Torts is not gonna have the same patience with comments like this like Maurice did.

I am kinda chapped about Roslo being traded. He sucks as a player but I wanted to sit him all season just to make a point.

Oh you have bigger problems within your organization than Laine commenting on his usage.
