With a goal against Buffalo Laine reached 100 career Points and became only the 3rd european teenager in NHL history to hit 100 career Points. Laine has a good shot to become the highest scoring european teenager too if he doesn't get injured this season. At the moment it's:

Kovalchuk 67+51=118 Points
Jagr 50+58=108 Points
Laine 55+45=100 Points

I know, I know this isn't all that impressive as european's are known to be more soft and fragile than North american players and usually end up making the NHL at a later age because they usually need more time to develop physically. But still It's pretty nice accomplishment to be in the same company as Jagr and Kovalchuk. But this might also mean that Laine runs a higher risk of quitting the NHL and signing in the KHL instead, just like both Kovalchuk and Jagr did...

Not every player has had a chance to play in the NHL as a teenager, especially not historically. Selänne had to debut as a 22-year old because military duty or something. Bure scored 26 points in 32 games in the Soviet as a 17-year old (or would be 18-year old) and then was voted best forward in the 1989 WJC tournament against older players like Mogilny, Fedorov, LeClair, Roenick, Modano & Selänne, but could only debut in the NHL in 91–92 because of obvious Soviet issues. Forsberg also could have come over earlier but didn't for some reason.

FTR, I count 19 North American teenagers that have 100+ points. All in the modern era.

Crosby leads the way with 222.

It's an impressive feat, but hardly worth putting much stock in.

It's an impressive feat, but hardly worth mentioning.

I know this is the worst kind of laziness, but forgive me as I'm on my phone: Where can I come up with the list? Are there only good-to-great players or does the list include busts/disappointments also? Crosby's statline sure is more impressive than Jagr's, however the adjustment for europeans are weighted.

Sounds like this still would be a good list to be in, even for a NA player? Even though there are a lot of players that have achieved it.

Why because Matthews is in it?

Edit #2: just the facts now.

Let's assume there have been 10000 players in the history if the NHL, that means only .22% of all players to ever play in the league have accomplished this. That to me is thread worthy.

Edit: If I am defending a mulletman thread about Laine that should tell you it's a legit thread. I almost feel sick to my stomach.

Huh? This is a Laine thread, maybe you could grow up and not derail the thread.

Hockey reference. Search player stats, set your age limit at 19, combine seasons, sort by points and there it is :)
Mostly notable players, I didn't recognize the name Dan Quinn, and the "worst notable" would probably be Jeff Skinner.

I don't find it to be overly special, but suit yourself :)

Have you done anything of note that only .22% of the population have accomplished? I know i haven't.

Let's put it this way, every year someone wins the Hart, the Richard and the Cup, each of those feats has been accomplished more than 3x players/teams. More players have 50 goal seasons than hitting 100 points in their teenage years. Shit, more people have been in orbit than accomplishing this.

In the grand scheme of things, it's probably not that big of a deal. But for Finns, it is.

We don't usually produce players who are good NHL players before their early-mid 20's. Guys like Laine, Aho and Barkov are starting to change that.

4. Jimmy Carson 92+94=186
5. Steve Yzerman 69+107=176

What a list of nobodies!!

For the record I think age is notable and a HUGE accomplishment, but would rank it #2 to games played.

The selective stats are so so fickle though. I could make up selective stats for just about any player in the league, and at that point it becomes so meaningless.

John Scott is only the 2nd player above 6-8" to play in the all-star game.
Connor brown is the 5th rookie from Ontario to score 20+ goals as a rookie since 2000

See how it minimizes the accomplishment?
