Confirmed with 8 PP goals in his first 9 games he has tied an NHL record. (Not certain if being on a new team factors in).

There’s a guy linking me to these threads.

I literally couldn’t care less about what Laine is doing in Montreal. He’ll score goals and they’ll lose games. If Montreal fans find that acceptable, whoopty doo. Some will become infatuated with the one timers, while other legitimate and long time hockey fans will become disillusioned from all the losing and lack of effort and intelligence that plagues the play of Patty Laine.

The CBJ has scoring wingers like Kent Johnson, Kirill Marchenko, and Yegor Chinakhov FLOURISHING, because Laine is gone, and the puck/icetime/opportunities don’t all have to go through Laine to keep the “superstar” happy and to keep his stats up in order for his fanboys to use it as his defense. And the team is scoring fine as a whole, even with Chinakhov, arguably the teams most dangerous forward, being out for awhile.

Ok bye, good hockey to watch.

It's actually kind of crazy that Matthews and Laine came in the same draft. I feel like they were the start of the "new gen" of snipers who grew up exclusively playing with the modern composites their whole lives. Matthews is a 2 time 60+ goal scorer and he doesn't have the best shot in his draft class imo.

Exactly.

2 of the best shots in the league in one draft and the #1 isn't the best shot.

I have always preferred Laine, still do.

As someone who was a big fan of Kovalchuk, there's no reason Laine shouldn't be hitting 40-50 every year just blowing pucks past goalies on the power play like he did. He absolutely has the talent and the shot to do so.

Scoring 8 Powerplay Goals in his first 9 games to start the year deserves its own thread.

Has anything like that ever happened before?
"Laine became the first player on record (since 1933-34) to score eight straight power-play goals for a team. He also became the third forward to score his first eight goals of a season with the man-advantage, joining Yvan Cournoyer (1966-67, 1965-66) and Owen Nolan (1995-96)."
