Nolan took 25 games to score those 8 goals. Cournoyer had 10 powerplay goals straight in 30 games to start the season in 1965-66 and 11 powerplay goals in 29 games in 1966-67. So Laine needs 4 more powerplay goals without another type of goal to break the all time record.

Maybe you didn't understand what happened. Laine scored 8 straight powerplay goals for his team without anybody else on the team scoring on the powerplay inbetween. He broke Phil Esposito's record of 7 straight powerplay goals for the Bruins in 1970-71. And Laine did it without playing with the late great Bobby Orr...

Playing with Dach and Newhook is like hitching an ox cart to a race horse. Like giving him a kids tricycle bike in cross country race. Like...never mind.

Dach is still barely NHL caliber after his accident. SMarty is keeping him with Laine to see if they form the Wheelchair Odd Couple.

We have a bit of a problem with a dire need to get Laine a set-up center. Suzuki can be it but now we've became a Russian Potamkin village. Dig a hole to fill a hole. If we continue in this direction, Hughes may decide to get a TD center. Or this may just be an illusion of success. Or Dach may sniff some smelling salts and wake up. Stay tuned...meanwhile ...he'll keep scoring on the PP.

Laine is a good player, he'll never come within 10 miles of a Hart Trophy win, extremely streaky one dimensional winger with an elite shot.

Celebrate him for what he is, don't get ridiculous with it, and this is coming from somebody who certainly likes Laine and sees 50 goal potential there.

I hear you and appreciate the feedback.

I disagree with the assessment though. I never suggested Hart Trophy but I wouldn't be shocked if he won it, after a 70+ goal season

I am celebrating him for what he is.

In a massive field of all kinds of workhorses and mustangs and whatever the finest horses are, there's this one with a tusk on it's head and it can fly.

I still think trading for Granlund from the Sharks could be a good idea. Even if he is an UFA this summer he could actually help Habs get a playoff-spot. Dach can center 3rd. Granlund`s been almost PPG now for 2yrs on maybe the worst team in the league. And his best talent is passing and 2-way play.

I literally couldn’t care less about what Laine is doing in Montreal. He’ll score goals and they’ll lose games. If Montreal fans find that acceptable, whoopty doo. Some will become infatuated with the one timers, while other legitimate and long time hockey fans will become disillusioned from all the losing and lack of effort and intelligence that plagues the play of Patty Laine.

The CBJ has scoring wingers like Kent Johnson, Kirill Marchenko, and Yegor Chinakhov FLOURISHING, because Laine is gone, and the puck/icetime/opportunities don’t all have to go through Laine to keep the “superstar” happy and to keep his stats up in order for his fanboys to use it as his defense. And the team is scoring fine as a whole, even with Chinakhov, arguably the teams most dangerous forward, being out for awhile.

columbus never had system and quarterback or feeder to utilise Laine speciality skill, winnipeg neither had besides wheeler somehow found other lane (pun intended) to get there.
