- their not the best pair in the league YET
- and edvinsson just a rookie in development stage , obviously a great defensive factor already . offense still developing and by next season he will be at 50 points and top 5 nhl on the d side , worth as much to a team as near anybody . seider is great , but edvinsson might become best dman in nhl
Dude, it is HIGHLY unlikely that he becomes the best D in the NHL lol.

I’ll get happy if he’s just a top pair D

So yeah you have absolutely nothing to offer yet from that nothing just out of nowhere is going to come out Detroits version of Barkov/Kucherov/Matthews

Damm that’s a great plan! Please don’t ever change

Do you realize that you might as well trade Larkin then? You have absolutely no anwers to simple question and Larkin is already 28y. If your plan is just waiting for a miracle Larkin will be past his prime so might as well trade him
So according to you every team that doesn’t have a top 10 player has no hope and should rebuild?

The Yzerman Derangement Syndrome is on full display here.

Rangers thread, 20+ pages.
Sabres (who are doing way worse with more talent) only has 20+ pages.
This thread is at 70+ pages and the other one almost went 100.

And with some of the takes in this thread, alot of you should probably have jobs in the NHL if you know right now that every pick Yzerman has made wont amount to anything without them even playing in the NHL yet. And while the signings havent been ideal, they were never meant to make them Cup contenders while theyre here. Guys like Copp, Compher, Chiarot, Holl, etc werent signed to make them contenders, theyre placeholders until the prospects that he is letting develop in the AHL or overseas are ready for the show.

9 pts in 33 games at 23 years old is better than 7 in 28 as a 20 yo rookie?

You also used an “actual 1st” to draft Jesperi Kotkaniemi over Brady…so
Imagine flexing on the Kotkaniemi pick when the guy you selected 3 picks later was waiver fodder and now in Switzerland, picked right before a Norris winner. But it’s okay, you have Jeff Petry now

Just atrocious drafting outside of their high picks in those two drafts. All those excess picks from the 2019 and 2020 draft with diddly squat to show for it.

You have a point here. The Wings 2019 draft in particular hurts. Seider is a franchise cornerstone, but knowing Kochetkov went immediately after Tuomisto really hurts, especially since we needed a goalie badly at that time (though I wanted Sogaard)

The thread is about your shitty rebuild. Ours is fine.
It’s just as shitty. The only “elite” player coming through is Demidov. Reinbacher looks like a huge L given that Michkov was available. Hutson is great but nothing much on offense if Demidov doesn’t blow the doors off.

Yeah 2019 and 2020 were terrible drafts outside of the first round. Given the amount of picks we should atleast have some solid depth coming through.

This is valid criticism, but arguing whether Kasper has been outstanding, if Seider will be 24 or 25 next year, saying stuff like MBN is our "saviour" and that relative stats are useless... Makes you question somethings.

It's because those teams fans know they're crap. Wings fans think of Yzerman as the messiah and the smartest guy in the room playing 4d chess building a soon to be dynasty. It's kind of a curious thing to see what it'll take for fans to turn on the chosen one. Maybe it's a 20 year plan lol. Their franchise player may just not have been born yet.

They could be stuck in the wilderness for a while. May not see them touch the playoffs for about 10 more years if they let Yzerman continue on here

Yeah that's why we have like 3 ongoing threads in the Wings forum discussing Yzermans mistakes.

You're making stuff up to give yourself some sense of self-worth.

Issue with Detroit is they don't really have a game breaker on offense, their defense is atrocious and the goaltending is musical chairs for every start. Lalonde also flat out sucks as a coach. They have good pieces but they need a flat out superstar on their forward side preferably. No one on that roster scares anyone in the league on a game to game basis.

That's fine, but he keeps also doubling down on these awful moves/contracts to push them closer to the bubble when it's clear that 23-24 Wings had some good fortune happen to them and they STILL missed the playoffs after being in a spot for a while.

To me every team needs a player to build around, otherwise you are really setting a limit on your ceiling

Florida, Barkov- Tkachuk/Reinhart
Toronto, Matthews- Marner
Tampa, Point- Kucherov
Boston, Bergeron- Marchand/Pasta

Just the most dominant teams from the Atlantic the last 10 seasons

But sure I’m speaking nonsense by questioning Detroits ceiling

Buffalo and Rangers fans are not appealing to authority nearly as much as you guys. That's the reason

No. It really isn't. The downfall of the habs is a thing. Own it.
Make your own thread then if you think it's worth discussing

Detroit not having a goalie and the veterans in Kane and Tarasenko having 9 goals between them really hurts Detroit this year.

Debrincat was a really nice add, especially at that price, but I think the year they signed like 6, or 7 UFAs to be regulars on the team hurt them.

Then again, without them, maybe Debrincat doesn't want to go to Detroit/Kane doesn't want to go to Detroit

b probably 2 yrs of continued failure for me (was happy with last season, this 1 a nightmare). SY has been pateintly drafting a solid core and slow rolling prospect developement as much as possible which is the wisest, surest way to build a good team.

that said the 2024 off season was a complete disaster. kane, tank, gustafssson signings have been misses. plus sending assets to lose walman was a head-scratcher.

dont watch enough other teams to have a an informed opinion on who but a lot of DRW fans wanted help on D 2024 off-season. A lof of fans on DRW wanted pesce, and even tho a tad old and signed long term, I think it's better to scount your player (pesce or someone else, trade if need b) and take you shot than sign a slew of plain just too-old and/or fringe nhlers for short term deals.
