As a former defenceman myself, it's pretty much defense 101 to play the man and not even look at where the puck is or where it's going. You try to get goal side on him and drive your shoulder into him as he's getting near the net.

It looks more like he's escorting him in, and by coasting, allows him by to get goal side and then pulls a belated slash/hook which has no hope of stopping any kind of momentum at all. Chabot was in good position but abdicated it entirely when his marker accelerated a bit.

The whole sequence wasn't a particularly good one from him. I saw plenty of mistakes in the game by lots of guys though. Just sloppy in general.

You're better than half the defense coaches we have had over the last 7 years. You're hired.

If Linus was in net, we win that game pretty easily

The Chabot hate is nuts. It reminds of the Jason Spezza days. Makes 1 mistake and all of a sudden he's the worst player and needs to be traded.

Yeah I have been saying it for a while, it is really the same scapegoating situation again, both were not perfect players but still highly talented. Which is also why you need good coaching because they are able to build a game plan around their players strengths and weaknesses.,

Just remove Chabot and Norris from this team and suddenly we lack talent big time.

I don't think he's trying to score from there but rather give the forward coming in at the top of the circle a rebound.

Yes and it was an obvious play. In my book, forcing a rebound is a smart play because depending on the angle/context, the goalie is forced to re-direct the puck in certain areas of the ice. It could have been dangerous or could have created offensive zone time if the 3 Sens players were not in la-la land.

Chabot has a bit of a magnifying glass on him because of his salary, his status on the team and his more consistent penchant for casual play at the worst times.

I don't disagree here, I think it's known/recognized that Chabot weakness is that he doesn't engage contact enough. Maybe he's scared to get injured again. We really need better defenders, Chabot has to be used in offensive situations as much as possible. To make it worse, Zub misses a lot of games.

The Jensen addition is good but ideally he'd be on our 3rd pairing RD as this stage of his career, if we were contenders.

I wonder if we're trying to sign Shattenkirk. He's a RHD with a ton of experience and much better defensively than he was long time ago. He would be asked to not do too much offensively and seriously, would do a much better job than Hamonic who I'd be fine with him being the 7th D)

I'm sorry, but take a look below at the shot Chabot took. It directly led to an LA breakout, rush chance and disallowed goal.

I don't know in what universe that decision making doesn't deserve criticism (again, forget the backcheck - just the shot selection).

Meh, I'd prefer a net rush. There should be a guy closing in on the net before he muffins it, but I certainly don't mind the idea behind the play. Especially if you think Keumper looks shaky, get the rebound, maybe shoot immediately, maybe hold it.

That said, I see an opportunity to rim it around there, which should have been the move, but we're micro examining the play at this point.

What's weird is that I distinctly remember him having a bit of a nasty streak early on in his career despite his average size.

That seems to have disappeared entirely.

It's still hard to accurately assess our defence when our goaltending puts on a performance like they did.

A good goalie will wallpaper over some of the glaring mistakes, but in a game like yesterday, every single one seemingly ends up in the back of the net.

Yesterday was a carbon copy of some of the games we had last season, only we didn't come back every single time they scored.

I thought Chabot didn't play that sequence that bad and even back checked effectively.
Its the constant rimming around the board to an opponent at our blue line for a dangerous turnover that is infuriating from a veteran with a letter

Not to focus too much on this one play, but no forward should be able to just drive to the front of the net unfettered like that.

That real estate has to be fought for.

The missed shot from the sharp angle is something I remember Mike Fisher doing when he’d try to pick that far corner and it would lead to a 3 on 2 against.

It was probably his only really annoying quality.

This game became a track meet because of all 3 goalies involved. There were a couple each way that were tough deflections but honestly with NHL standard goaltending Sens would win 4-3 or so. Once it became 4-4 by the halfway point both teams were in scramble mode so I don’t think much is worth analyzing out of it.

Our depth Gregor, Amadio, Kleven, Jensen, Cousins, Zach MacDavid, won us that game and that was probably the difference in the push we had. Our star players won it, but those depth guys have all played well since game 1 and why we have 2 wins

guy is a seasoned loser, just coasted the whole play didn't even enter the scrum after his goalie was bumped.
him coasting wasn't an issue at all, he moved more than fast enough to pick up his man on the play, and get body position on him by the blue line. The issue is that he got caught puck watching after getting in position and allowed his man to sneak around him while he wasn't looking, he needed to be all over him and tie up that stick instead of watching the guy Batherson was keeping to the outside.

Sens expected goals against down this year. Top 10 so far.

Expected goals for are unfortunately down as well. But that’s not the worst thing. They’re going defence first.

Hard to get a read after just 3 games, particularly with the performance we saw from Sogaard and Forsberg the other night.

xGA (2.24/60 this year vs 2.64) are way down, xGF (2.41/60 this year vs 2.55) a touch down. Again, hard to read too much out of that given it's only 3 games.
