Gotta imagine Byfield is going the other way. It'll probably have to be Byfield or Vilardi (or Clarke who I highly, highly doubt the Kings trade).
Doubt Byfield or Vilardi being moved for 60 points PLD. Just not enough to justify the price. MTL isn't going to give up Dach. King's have to beat a Dvorak, Anderson package with a combination of Arvidsson & iafallo. Not looking good.

Edit: word is pld is looking for 8-9 AAV.

I'd have to think they would want Clarke -- and we'd say no.
Which means one or more of Byfield & Vilardi is definitely gone. In addition to losing one or more of Spence and Pinelli too (among other items).

At this point, Blake has already toasted the rebuild with the winning with Kopi/DD path. So might as well go all-in now. Enjoy 1-3 years of going for it and then rebuild again (with a new GM hopefully)

Provided he signs a long-term deal, I'm trading Byfield in a heartbeat.

I'd be extremely disappointed if we give up either Clarke or Vilardi. I'm not sure what Byfield's ceiling will ultimately end up to be, but that would give me the least heartburn of the 3.

How are villardis contract talks going. wouldnt suprise me if he was the main piece going back if they hit a snag. Perhaps Blake wants someone better at center.

Seems patently obvious to me now that Blake's all in if we're being linked to Wilson and/or PLD. He's trying to get one last kick with Kopi and Doughty while he still can.

Its interesting because when you look at the age groups for the team.

35+ Kopitar
30-34 Danault, Arvidsson, Danault, Copley
25-29 Grundstrom, Fiala, Kempe, Moore, Iafallo, Lizotte, Gavrikov, Matt Roy,
20-24 Kaliyev, Vilardi, Anderson, Durzi, JAD, Byfield, Kupari, Clarke, Spence, Turcotte, Bjornfot, Portillo

You add someone like Dubois who is 24-25, you're still in an age bracket where you can still compete now and in the future (Depending on who/what you trade away).

We can complain about Blake and how we got to this point, and I've certainly had my criticisms with him recently, at least it seems he's being very aggressive right now. He's probably doing it because he's feeling the heat and wants to save his job, but he's not standing pat.

Why though?????? PLD is not a 1C on a championship caliber team. 1C for the future is one of the Kings biggest needs. So why trade a 20 year old with a ton of untapped potential for anything BUT a proven 1C?? I know people have doubts about Byfield but trading him now for a 2nd line center is absolutely not the move and could look completely atrocious in 2 years.

That said, I think people are over-estimating what the Kings would have to give up to get him. The Jets literally HAVE to trade him or he's just going to walk for free and he's made it clear he'll only consider signing with a few teams so they have a limited number of destination options. They have little to no bargaining power.

For that reason, all of Byfield, Vilardi, and Clarke should be completely and totally off the table. A first round pick should also be completely off the table in my opinion. The only way an asset like that goes the other way should be if Hellebuyck is included in the deal and we'd need to put together a massive package to get that done obviously.

I think you realistically could acquire PLD for a a couple draft picks and maybeeeeeee a B level prospect. Then sign him to a 1-2 year deal. If the Kings really do want to try to win another cup with Kopitar and Doughty, this would give them a pretty solid chance of doing that.

Then if that doesn't work out... You hire a new GM and re-tool on the fly for a year or 2 and try to get back in contention with a new core not centered around Kopi/Drew.

I know many would be against it and I know people would point out Blake has no long term plan and the Kings aren't good enough to be in 'win now' mode and etc etc but..... You'd have to admit it'd be pretty fun to add a fairly big name like PLD.

If the Kings are actually going to go all in for the next year or two.... It's an intriguing option.

That could give them a top 9 of something like:
Byfield - Kopitar - Kempe
Fiala - Dubois - Vilardi
Moore - Danault - Arvidsson

You can point out Kopitar's age and whatever else you want, but that's a pretty incredible top 9. Can't really imagine a single other team having that kind of center depth (and just forward depth in general). If you add a decent goalie as well and Clarke steps in like we're hoping he does. The Kings could have an absolutely electric squad. If it doesn't work out... Obviously it would be Bye bye Blake.

Jets fan here, lots of speculation for PLD (and Helle).

i personally view your team w/ pretty strong C depth currently, although Kopitar is evidently finishing off his career. you do have a couple of potential heir apparents in Vilardi and Byfield. but w/ your limited cap-space this year id think you guys would be more interested in Goaltending rather than another Fwd?

PLD imo is not a 1c on a cup contending team. in fact, the last 2 PO appearances w/ us he's failed to deliver especially when Scheifele was out (suspension, injury). he's a v good 2C in the 60ish pt range that plays a heavier/grit/garbage-goal style game, but given that, it may be leading to massive inconsistencies throughout the year where he slows down significantly towards the tail-end. He isn't some super effective 2-way player like ROR or Bergeron whereby you can live with 60ish pts.

on 32-thoughts today it was noted he was looking in the range of Larkin (8.75M) and Barzal (9.15M) on a deal. i considered 8M a slight over-pay so those two numbers are way up there for me at least. for trade value really his stats are not far off Fiala's for when you guys traded for him. so a mid-ish 1st and then however you considered Faber at the time of the trade.

I hope this is just some dumb rumor.. have to clear at min 9mil in cap to get him on board - who is that going to be 2 of (Vilardi, RV, Iafallo)? He seems like a bit of a head case - has wanted out of 2 orgs in a row (personally I could almost grant him a pass considering its WPG an CLB)... but I dont think this is the right guy

Whole lot of issues with these rumors for me. Going for a guy from Montreal who has already wanted out of 2 organizations before turning 25 is a dangerous proposition. Trading Vilardi for him doesn't make sense as a younger, cheaper, better scorer if you're trying to win now. Then there's the money.

The only way this seemingly works (accounting for still needing a goalie and bottom 6 help) is if you add both of Arvi/Iafallo to the trade if Winnipeg isn't wanting to rebuild. You can't do what you did with Mikey, as iirc PLD is a UFA next year and not a RFA.
