Speculation: LA Kings Offseason Thread

This will go down as the most stressful game in franchise history.

I still vividly recall this day, as I had a hockey game that same night, and was resigned to yet another defeat after the Kings were down 2-0 in the first period. We tried to follow the game from our bench, and kept seeing them come back, then get scored on yet again. After we saw the game was tied in the third, we bolted after our hockey game and headed to the nearest sports bar in Burbank. Thankfully we sat down just in time to witness Alec Martinez score in overtime.

Arguably my favorite game in Kings history. I remember exactly where I was and who I was with, how we all reacted, etc.

That entire run took years off my life.

4. Sign Korpisalo ($2-2.5Mish)
5. Sign Kupari ($1M)
6. Sign JAD/MacEwen/Fagemo ($0.9M)

I've never been more nervous at a sporting event. was so lucky they played back to back years in Chicago when I was living there. I was on the Kings shoot twice end, so didn't really have a good view, just saw the goal-light go off.

That whole run in 2014 was just so great, the comeback vs SJ, Game 7 in Anaheim the all-time great series with Chicago and another Game 7 win.

Took years off my life too - that last game was so up and down. I remember I was at a bowling alley and I ran all the way down the lanes when they won. The first Cup win was not nearly as gut-wrenching.

We definitely need to find a 4th line that can bring a consistent energy and forecheck to give this team some solid minutes in the playoffs. We were clearly lacking that against Edmonton.

Agreed. I think Lizotte is a really good 4th line center and together with Iafallo can really be 2/3 of a highly effective possession line and an excellent penalty killing pair.

I'm on the fence about whether to keep Grundstrom. He can bring the physicality to the forecheck, but doesn't bring the consistency. Kupari is faster than Grundstrom and has a higher ceiling, but hasn't put a decent season together yet.

Tbf, Rosen confirmed yesterday

Cause Blake calling about Ekholm wouldn't have asked Nashville if they had a goalie they were moving?

I'll check again, but don't think there's enough cap for Gavrikov Vilardi & a 23 man roster or paying a goalie much over 1 mill. Something else needs to happen.

3C, could just fill with Lizotte or Byfield. Getting Todd an center he can trust might help keep Kopi's time down during the season to not wear him out.

Hellebuyck: was creeping on the WPG section & they think he is wearing out playing 60 games a season & slipping a bit in the playoffs. Seems like a good fit. WPG is looking for players & not picks.

I mean, I would love to have him, I don't see how it is possible though without an absolutely crazy trade and contract signing. Though, given Blake's recent deals and urgency, it wouldn't surprise me too much if something like that happened.

I'm not sure anyone's ready to jump on that 9 million QO, maybe after

I'm not sure Blake could resist another undersized winger so I hope OTT does something else with him pronto!

So how would they make the money work? They can't trade Danault because there is no one to replace him due to the disaster returns on the young centers, so I assume Vilardi goes the other way in the deal, he is probably in line for $5m range this season, so if you get Ottawa to retain 50% (which adds to the cost) it could work money wise and then Debrincat can sign an extension once Kopitar is off the books (although he will be back on for less).

Debrincat is better than Vilardi, but assuming he gets a similar deal to Fiala in the long-term, that would be a lot to pay two wingers.

Would be the most Blake thing ever to pass on a small winger in the 2019 draft who is one of the best finishers in the world and then a few years later trade major assets to get a less talented version of that player and pay him $8-10 million.

And just to add, the people complaining about 2 years for Gavrikov, just remember how much damage the DL long-term small cap hit deals that he signed players to and traded for did to the Kings. Greene, Gaborik, Richards, Brown, Quick, tried to sign Lucic for 7,

I'd much rather pay a guy like Gavrikov $6m a year for 2 years than $4.5 million for 7.

I might be biased but I see some Holmstrom traits with Vilardi. Amazing close to the net, hard to move, high hockey sense, and great hands. I wouldn’t personally trade a player like that when they’re so uncommon. You need a player like that that’s lethal in front of the goal. Vilardi can make any shot turn into a high probability rebound goal. That’s unique to me.

That’s why I said that I think if we were to choose the players that really drive the Kings in terms of offense I’d choose Vilardi and Fiala. No one else on this team is as good at creating something out of nothing.

NEVER trust Eklund, unless it is the Flyers
I Don't trust him. Just thought DeBrincat to LA was an interesting idea. If the King's consolidated 2 wings into one the cap could work. Little to mo chance of happening.

Any rumors on the Vilardi front? Bridge? Tossing a 4-5 year deal at him? Caufield comparable? Seems awfully quiet.

i'm guessing gavrikov was priority #1 and vilardi gets worked in after that, probably hear more on that front soon

blake would be huffing glue to give gabe a caufield contract though
