I really hope this team just goes full 2012

down to starting slow enough to get a TM shitcanned and a new coach who turfs some useless vets and gets the most out of new callups Turcotte and Fagemo while landing Hellebuyck at the deadline and nuking the world in the playoffs
For it to align, Blake would need to hire a friend with initials DS.. but the dual of 2011-12 would be for it to be an epic failure.. ie Blake as the anti-DL

Petersen is a mental midget if he couldn't handle the incumbent battling to keep his spot as the starter.
especially since everything out of Vegas was how good Quick was for Hill and their room. Given where Quick signed and the role he will have I doubt he would have any issue being a good teammate for Cal. If Cal cannot hand someone pushing for the crease he should not have the crease.

Hoven was on with Boomer Gordon on NHL/Sirius. (Yeah I know how a lot of you think about Hoven, just listen...).
Highlights:
--Anderson-Doughty, Gavrikov-Roy, Bjornfot-Clarke to start
--Spence will be 7th defenseman in AHL as Kings carry 6 defensemen. No back-to-back on the road until December, so Kings will be doing a lot of paper transactions to maneuver around the cap
--Quick's transition to Petersen was very difficult as Quick was very competitive in handing over to Cal and it got in Cal's head
Quick was pretty good at outcompeting presumed successors. Isn't Jones really the only one that's still playing in the league?

If Bjornfot-Clarke starts as the 3rd pairing then I wouldn't be surprised if by Thanksgiving, Bjornfot is in the press box, Clarke is in Ontario, and the 3rd pair is Englund + some replacement-level vet RHD that Blake paid a 4th round pick for Torrey Mitchell-style.

Lets blame the guy who isnt here.
Hoven blaming Quick's competiveness for peterson's issues is laughable and moves hoven to the top of the shit list
hoven ignoring the $15M and instead blaming quick? protecting blake? no way!

yeah burying clarke after 10 makes way too much organizational sense

i do think it'll be 1 of bjornfot or spence with englund though

He said Vilardi was asking for the moon too. There have been many other things like this. Hoven just flat out lies to make the org look better and still somehow has people around here sucking his balls defending him. It’s so weird.

Bjornfot has literally played with Doughty and handled those minutes. It's going to be even easier now with Gavrikov-Roy drawing a lot of difficult icetime.

Clarke would greatly benefit from a partner like Anderson. There's no reason to throw both Bjornfot and Clarke into the lion's den.

Such typical shortsighted bullshit roster construction and deployment from the BlucTodd think tank.

Maybe LA brass and Hoven felt over $3M for Vilardi was the moon?

Not necessarily.

I spent a lot of time here arguing that if you want Cal to be the starter, especially since you just signed him for that role, you HAVE to remove the old guard blockade and give him the time to sink or swim. It takes a specific mental approach the acceptance of a backup role. Promising an opportunity then sitting whether you play well or not so that a faded hero doesn't get his feelings hurt is no way to handle a roster.

This is sort of my line of the summer, but respect is more important here than progress. Nothing will improve until you completely cut ties to the Cup era, its an unfair standard to use as a comparison for the next generation of players.

Its not a question of ability, its a question of glass ceilings imposed by the presence of former stars and their inability to accept reality. You cannot have a team that has a room full of players with different objectives and hope to coalesce.

I get it but I also want the guy who signed the big contract to be so good that a fading Quick isn't a threat.

That said, I don't believe Hoven. Seems like a way to say Blake wasn't wrong about the talent but the incumbent ruined things, an incumbent that is also no longer on the team.

Most of the Hoven Huffers will take it at face value and say Blake wasn't totally wrong while ignoring what you are saying: if this really is true, the issue isn't confined to the goaltending position.

We'll see how pumped people are for Englund's 'toughness' when he can't even keep up with the NHL play. It's like MacDermid minus the actual threat. I don't know why people are acting like we picked up f***in Colton Parayko here.

the guy has 7 points and -13 and 59 PIMs in 80 games the most of which came with Colorado and his advanced stats are uuuuugly, up to -50% GF% rel.

I too am excited for the 27 year old journeyman plug who couldn't even stick on Chicago because occasionally he'll get out of position to throw a hit to injure someone and lose a fight

He's a walking caricature of 'team toughness' but I guess that's enough

I'm so sick of people talking about this scrub of a player named Englund. The dude shouldn't even come close to making the team. He wasn't signed for the NHL. His contract basically is for the AHL as a 2 year high priced contract so no teams take him off waivers. He is there to protect Turcotte amd the prospects in the AHL which is ironic as he's the dirty player that gave Turcotte his last concussion. Bjornfot is 5 years younger, has 36 more NHL games played and 8 more points than Englund. Englund is a joke of a signing amd I'd rather have Moverare in the NHL than Englund.

3LD is for Bjornfot and Bjornfot only. It's his time to shine or get lost for nothing (like Hickey).

Quite honestly Quick didn’t seem like the nicest fellow. So it doesn’t really surprise me if it’s true.
I think it was a telecast after the trade - it was discussed how the Kings players loved Quick. He and his wife would apparently always make sure that players would be invited to holiday gatherings and keep everyone together.

I think with Quick, more specifically, is he's very intense and competitive, and seemed pretty dismissive of pithy questions. But I also believe Quick, while supportive of his teammate, would also not go down easy or be replaced.
