This is where I’m at. I don’t think the Kings owe Kopitar anything. He’s gotten paid and he’s got all the red bows and sweet nothings his entire time as a King. I love the guy but he can f*** off. Kopitar doesn’t NEED to sign here again so I’m not mad at him not asking for cheap. I’m more upset with Blake that we’re going back to the well with Kopitar. This is exactly the shit I was talking about earlier today @Fishhead @Herby
As for hometown discounts, players should get their money and not be expected to take less. That being said and in the case of this deal:
- Why do it now? Do they expect Kopitar to take things up a notch this year so he'll cost even more if they wait to sign him?
- Bitching about $1MM is a pretty big deal when you look at this team's current goaltending situation and the genius plan to not roster a full lineup.
I've always known he'd have a contract here if he wanted it. Doing it now for an older player when you have an entire Age 36 season ahead of you is pretty ridiculous.
I love the guy and I'm not trying to flex when I say I've been a STH'er since '01 and have probably watched him play in person more than anyone here. Having seats for that long only proves that I'm stupid. He's brought me so much joy so I'm not mad at him or anything but, f*** man, this team has pretty much given us nothing to cheer for except for silver stick and retirement ceremonies for Brownie and Dewy ad Kopi for nine season now and this feels like more of the same shit: continuing to pay for 2012 and 2014.
And they are still too soft.
And personally I don’t care that much if Kopitar retired on another team. I’ve always been a Kings fan first and not a player fan.
If Kopitar getting flown out was on the table during the rebuild I would have drove him myself.
