Adding PLD makes no sense. Even if center was a need, I’d go after Matthew’s instead.
I am sure we can find lots of things to bitch about regarding Matthews as well. At the rumored 14 to 15 mil annual salary there is item 1. Mooning a security guard a few years ago could be perceived as a poor attitude or a person making poor choices. The cheesy mustache and the cheesier commercials may come into play. Probably only wants to go to L.A to be an actor or learn to surf. The possibilities are endless.

With PLD we have about 5 mil cap space extra to pay a second player we can also find things to bitch about. Way more fun. Good ole 2 for 1.

In all seriousness a full rebuild guarantees nothing, signing the best UFA’s guarantees nothing, having a record breaking season a la Boston guarantees zilch.

All we can do is roll out a competitive team, pray the coaches are on the ball, we have good health and a goalie or star gets hot in the playoffs.

None of the recent Cup winners were built the same way, play the exact style or have the same pedigree.

Just hope the front office identifies the right pieces that gel on the ice to bring out each others best traits and hope for full health and to catch fire at the right time.

Focus on getting a goalie, maybe tighten up the defense, a two way forward.

We gave up something like 17 goals in 3 games to Edmonton.
I followed PLD heavily in his draft year. He was projected to be a two way forward. The name Anze Kopitar was even used as a benchmark in I believe Elite Prospects or the Hockey News. Don’t have it in front of me.

My question is how is PLD’s two way game. I know he is 45% in the dot but how is the rest of the two way game?

Matthew’s is 26, a sniper (40-60 goal scorer) that wears a letter and plays like he cares about the game. He would easily be the best player we’ve had since Gretzky.

The other thing is, it would piss off Toronto fans and they would meltdown if the Kings have any success.

But like I said, center isn’t a need. But if we’re in the market for one, get the best one potentially available.

He was minus 5 in the last two games in the VGK, and it looks like he was limited by the HC in terms of playing time in the final game?

Adding more specifics to this. Lombardi would say it's easier to attract younger, single players because of the lifestyle. Players with spouses typically had more reservations because the perception of LA as some crime-ridden smogfest makes it seemingly hard to raise a family.

Which is why Smyth lying about how unsafe the city is to perpetuate the stereotype was all the more annoying.

People are drawn to different locales for different reasons. People won't like LA due to cost of living and being so far away from home. People won't like Toronto for the media pressure. Some people may love Winnipeg's colder climate or Columbus' low cost of living (relative to other NHL cities).

I did see a poll from a few years ago where Winnipeg was the leading city that a player dreaded to play in (40+% of the responses had Winnipeg, 30+% said Buffalo). But again, he wasn't in a toxic situation. Just unfavorable living conditions.

And he's very well within his right to say he's not going to re-sign in Winnipeg. I'm not disputing his rights there. He may have a valid reason to want out of LA after a year or a week. Or never. We don't know. But we do know that he's twice vocalized he doesn't like the location he's playing in and it's to a degree that the best recourse is to relocate him. Twice in his 6-year career. Do you think it's impossible for him to find an unreconcilable issue with LA as well?
I mean, LA is a shithole which is why they all live at the beach and/or Orange County.

Dreger says Austin Matthews camp has had talks with Leafs and wants to resign.

Let's get real. Winnipeg is in Manitoba which is roughly the size of California and Oregon combined. The province has 1.3 mm people of which 60% live in the city. The average January temperature is 12 degrees Fahrenheit. And, someone is getting on PLD's case because he wants out when he has the opportunity? That's before we talk about Canadian taxes (the main reason no Canadian team has won a cup in 30 years). I feel sorry for fans of the team, but the NHL ideally would not have a franchise in Winnipeg. It's 470 miles from St. Paul, the only city remotely close to the Jets. How they are able to keep any players there is a mystery to me. Should I call anyone on this board a malcontent because they want to have a better quality of life and have the ability to change locations?
I'm not giving PLD a huge break but I agree that it isn't a horrible thing if a guy with a year left on his deal is like...I'm not coming back to Winnipeg. I mean, he's been signing shorter deals since being in Columbus. He probably could have cashed in on a lot of guaranteed money on his 2nd CBJ deal but he only took two years. Then he only signed for one year with Winnipeg. Not exactly Mikey Anderson at the negotiating table.

Calgary has how many guys deciding not to stay there? Calgary is basically LA compared to Winnipeg.

If you are going to sign up for eight years of Winnipeg, you are going to need the weather to change and for several other great players to sign up for eight years with you. Kudos to the guys that have signed long-term there but check this out:

- Until the 2012 run, the last time the Winnipeg/Phoenix franchise won a playoff round was 1986-87. This franchise hasn't won a round since that year.
- Atlanta/Winnipeg didn't win a playoff GAME until 2018 when the Jets went to the conference finals. They have not won a non-bullshit-bubble-playoff round since then.

I'm sorry, but Winnipeg is only winning if they home-grow a killer lineup. Edmonton hasn't been able to do it with McDrai and people are actually willing to go play there because of McDavid.

Now I do have an issue with PLD when it comes to Torts. I don't like a very young player in this league handling that situation the way he did. You would hope for maturity since then and I don't count saying he won't sign with Winnipeg as a sign that he hasn't: there just aren't any signs that he has either. It's a real risk to hitch a long term, big dollar deal to this guy. At the same time, probably the same with Vilardi due to sample size and injury history.

I think Blake wasn’t allowed till they got the pieces together. It makes no sense and I do think you guys should stop complaining till there is a trade. PLD is the kind of player that we miss A LOT (would love to see him having a chat with Evander Kane next time we meet). Besides Gabe is a great one but his healthy will always be a factor. This trade might resolve some of the redundance of this line up while bringing the much needed thoughness to our top 6

I agree, but still Gabe Vilardi is a tough sale for me.

I’m sorry you seem to be having a mild stroke.

Every single one of these teams were considered contenders besides the Blues. VGK literally won the conference last year.

that's not true. VGK were not considered contenders after Logan Thompson was out.
I'm not having a mild stroke by having a pretty acurrate opinion? And last time you called me deranged for a post that was uncalled for.

Blake seems to make you come unhinged to the point that you are about to vapor lock...it's bizarre at a minimum and more like clinical level necissating ....and having a moniker after a player that had about 40 good games as a King and ends up crossing the border on a boat with drugs? Pretty certain it was much worse than that...
Dreger or EJ Hradek? Cannot recall which...when the news came out, one of them had the polcice report and texted WOW. ICKY. And deleted it, pretty quickly. He was probably called by the Kings or Richards attorney to retracr it. ICKY??? Can think of a few things. But cannot write them here.
What, could be ICKY? Truly. Only a few things can make an ICKY list. And it's not drugs, or crossing the US Canada border. Probably prisonforrichie would be suitable.

PLD's defensive metrics suck.

He's good on the PP. Not much else.

If we trade for him, you have to hope he turns it around. He certainly has the ability IMO.

Where is everyone getting the view that he even does this??

It's a myth.
