I legit have no idea how Blake will survive this trade. This is a death blow.

On today's podcast, Friedman was pondering if they're trying to iron-out a one-year "gentleman's agreement" with Dubois, similar to what Mikey Anderson did, in helping the Kings with their cap situation for this season, then signing an 8-year extension afterwards.
I doubt it. The cap is tight, but workable.

i just don't get why you would do that with PLD and not vilardi instead, saving a f***ton of money for a goalie now then another player next season when kopi's off the books

Parts Unknown
Looking at the roster composition of the Kings that got into the playoffs, Rob Blake assembled:

- 7 players drafted under the current GM (Vilardi, Byfield, Kaliyev, Kupari, Anderson, Bjornfot, Anderson-Dolan.
- 3 undrafted collegiate free agents signed by the current GM (Iafallo, Lizotte, Walker).
- 11 trade/free agent acquisitions (Fiala, Gavrikov, Korpisalo, Danault, Arvidsson, Moore, Grundstrom, Edler, Copley, MacEwen, Durzi).
- 4 legacy players (Kopitar, Doughty, Kempe, Roy).

So 21 players from this postseason were acquired by the current management team, and almost 50% of them were talented they drafted or amateurs they signed.

Of course you'd like to see them hit more homeruns and get better results from that drafted group, but as we've witnessed with the likes of Vilardi and Kempe, it can take some time for some of them to finally start producing, and the Kings are going to need some of those players, like Byfield, Kaliyev, and Kupari, to make meaningful contributions in order for this team to get to the next level, even after they add another top six forward who can put up 20+ goals and 60+ points.

When it comes to the Kings this dude always has the info and doesn’t gas things up like the Mayor

Hoven's been burned with some rumors, so while he will write articles about big ones that he keeps asking about, and how to make them work, he's tried to focus more on providing news and information and less on rumors.

Vilardi showed flashes of brilliance. Elite play.

That's why it's difficult for me to accept trading him.

Were those just flashes? Or a sign of things to come?

How can you say this a few posts earlier you were saying PLD is “just not that good”

They are 1 year apart and look at the resumes.

But one showed “flashes of brilliance” and had “elite play” but the one with 300 career points entering his age 25 season is a bum.

He was an RFA. They could've traded him to a team in the east that would've kept him

How does that prevent him from going to SJ? Assuming he signs an offer sheet for the $3m he signed for, I believe the compensation at the time was a single 2nd rd pick. If he was dead set on going to SJ, why is another team going to match? Why would the other team not trade him to SJ for the same 1sr rd pick Boston got?

That he was included in that trade very likely shows there was no better option.

If it goes through and another young player is added, my guess would be Kupari. Since Lizotte would replace him as 4C
If the Kings are receiving additional pieces as rumored, its going to be a sweeter add-in than we think.

Im thinking this dude, pld, wants alot more than he's worth and is trying to base his demands on his potential and not past performance.

Yeah, he doesn't strike me as the "gentleman's agreement" sort of guy. While no one knows the whole truth of the situation, if the rumors about his contract demands are true, that is a tough ask. It would be a more lucrative deal than what Fiala earned and he hasn't proven he has earned or deserves more than Fiala. I would think that the Kings would be negotiating from that rule of measure.

The Stanley Cup
Rather have Byfield going the other way than Gabe. At this point we all would kill for Byfield to become what PLD already is.
Gabe on the other hand has already shown what he can do.
For all the consternation about Byfield, PLD was barely a better even-strength player than Byfield last year. PLD scored 2.18 points/60 while Byfield was at 1.88 points/60. Byfield actually had a higher primary assist rate (0.9 per 60 vs. 0.73 per 60). The odds that Byfield runs such a low shooting percentage next season are very low. If Byfield had even an even an average shooting percentage last season, he would have scored at the exact same rate as PLD at even strength (which would have resulted in only 3 more goals at even strength).

9 years of PLD -- oh boy it's gonna be great hearing how overpaid PLD is and not producing at his salary in 2029-2032 on these boards.

I get that sense with a lot of these reporters.
Why even bring it up if it makes no sense. Shitty reporting.

My speculation is that the talk are far along and Austin doesn’t bullshit. If it’s term that they are hung up on then that’s that.
