Strong "I TRIED to trade up for Wallstedt" vibes

He did though. They weren't taking him at 8. Nobody was letting him back into the first round without another first coming back or a very early 2nd and an asset. Even that wouldn't guarantee him still being there. I think both Yanetti and Blake talked about it somewhere. Sorry, don't remeber which podcast. My guess is they tried to get back into the mid-late teens to be sure but there were no takers or the price was too high.

That trade was wrong from the get go. Connor or Brazal were there for the taking. From the first second we all new an extension was gonna be near impossible.
It wasn’t a move for the future, it was a move to win the third cup. They were in a Cup window.

Even after the trade failed that season and DL eventually got canned later on. When current management took over, they also thought we were still in a Cup window.

With some of the talk of it being three pieces from Winnipeg and Vilardi, Iafallo, a pick and another young forward, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if its Kaliyev.

Seven years ago the Kings made what would quickly turn out to be a disastrous deal one season later.

I'd say Lucic did his part and produced quite well, and the Kings had a great regular season, but got completely dominated and clowned by the Sharks in those playoffs, and Lucic did nothing in the postseason. Those events eventually led to the downward spiral that led to the firing of Sutter and Lombardi.

Don't forget about the ineptitude of letting Martin Jones end up on a division rival. Not only was Lucic a turd, not only was the trade a massive overpayment, but the cherry on top of that shit sundae was the Kings being eliminated by the goalie they traded away knowing full well Boston would flip him and SJ wanted him.

With some of the talk of it being three pieces from Winnipeg and Vilardi, Iafallo, a pick and another young forward, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if its Kaliyev.
I really hope it's not Kaliyev. If it is Blake's trading away all the forwards except useless Byfield.

I think it'll be Dubois+Harkins+Dillon(at 50%) from Winnipeg tho.

It was a bad deal, especially in hindsight, but at least Lucic was a good fit for the team and played well, he just came at a high and wasted cost.

I am okay with trading Vilardi. I would love to keep him but his injury history and production have question marks around him, he is valuable now and that may not always be the case, though he can also break out and go the other way... I just don't know if PLD is the move. Trading for him and signing him to some deal even in the ballpark of $9M/season doesn't sit well at all. He is a good player and maybe could be worth that, but that is nowhere near evident right now.

The deal makes the team better right now, which may be all the appeal Blake needs to pull the trigger, and I will enjoy watching the team this upcoming season regardless, but man that is a tough call to make now. Hopefully, other options are being explored too.

I find that highly doubtful, it's going to be one or the other with Vilardi or Kaliyev, no way it's both.

The prospect is probably someone like a Tyler Madden or Akil Thomas.

If Jones wanted to.go ro SJ, there's nothing the Kings could've done to stop it.

If it goes through and another young player is added, my guess would be Kupari. Since Lizotte would replace him as 4C

Find yourself a woman who loves you as much as Ziggy Stardust loves Kingstorians random factoids.

So, if there's no deal, fine.
But if Vilardi's contract is 4 million per yr bridge, there will have to be someone dealt...lots of players
out there....2 to 4 from Calgary, alone. But still what about the cap?
Seems like would have to be pick or prospect / cost controlled ELC player.
I am sure that they are looking at several options.

They can deal 1 of: Iafallo, Moore or Arvidsson...or, they can also choose to not sign Gabe
and deal him. I cannot see how they can sign Gabe over 3 and sign a goalie as well.

Vilardi showed flashes of brilliance. Elite play.

That's why it's difficult for me to accept trading him.

Were those just flashes? Or a sign of things to come?
A sign of things to come. Vilardi has and hade insane hockey IQ and has the talent to go with it. It’s pretty weird that they want to trade him when some bozo can take a shot at Byfield instead. But Kings gonna King.

How many years can Vilardi sign for and still be a RFA afterwards?

2 years max, correct? 3 would make him a UFA?

And he wrote on what is being reported by others, so no new update. There just appears to be some conflicting reports on the contract extension talks, and a few Canadian reporters are suggesting that Montreal is still pursuing a trade. So who the hell knows. The Mayor actually has been rather quiet about it as well.

Interesting stat on Vilardi. His net minor penalties P/60 this year was +1.41

That's minor penalties drawn verse minor penalties committed.

That was the best in the NHL among all forwards (min 20gp).

And he's not a diver. Him drawing penalties at that rate shows what a handful he was for defenders at times during this season.

He’s too busy taking things to the bank.

Im thinking this dude, pld, wants alot more than he's worth and is trying to base his demands on his potential and not past performance.

On today's podcast, Friedman was pondering if they're trying to iron-out a one-year "gentleman's agreement" with Dubois, similar to what Mikey Anderson did, in helping the Kings with their cap situation for this season, then signing an 8-year extension afterwards.
