Lot of negative Nancy's on this board talking big like they absolutely know better and the road to immediate/LT successful Cup runs is crystal clear and easy as A-B-C. Some seem to enjoy the complaining like a HS drama girl. I'll get a laugh at those same posters in 2-4+ years slobbering over these same Kings prospects & young players who are now successful and kicking ars for the Kings with the deepest team in the league.

Maybe they will still be complaining about our goalie situation or how we blew the 2022 series against Edm and a chance to be swept by the Avs.

Thoughts on line up next year
Moore, Danault, Ardvidsson that's the easy one.

Forsberg, Kopi, Iafallo
Kaliyev, Byfield, Kempe

Here the 2 scorers are split between the lines Forsberg & Kempe

If a high end talent better than Kempe isn't brought on
Kaliyev, Kopi, Kempe
Iafallo, Byfield, Necas or some other soon to break out youth.

Maybe someone comes out of nowhere!

Got a month left for UFA Day?

I like it! Can they fit Forsberg (and a left dman) without sending out Iafallo, Walker, Roy, and Lemieux?

I'm not a fan of signing Forsberg, but my greatest Kings wish is that one of Fagemo or Chromiak makes the team and pots 20 goals. Necas would be a great add, but he's more of a passer than a scorer and we need the latter most.

Forsberg is going to be expensive. Other guys like Nylander & Pastrnak would have huge costs to acquire & require new UFA contracts soon. Think I'd prefer a young guy just before they breakout.

We have a few of those we're still waiting on. Not going to name any names 13.

Biggest thing right now is that Right hand shot on PP1. Fagemo & Chromiak will be up at some point in the future. Need a solution now though.

I am sure Forsberg will die to sign a contract for a team where he plays with Kopitar and Iafallo.
Sooner or later we have to face the reality that Kopitar is not a 1st line center anymore.
The earlier, the better

In general i oppose the earning track for roster spots.
I would approach the opposite way and fill the roster by playstyle and go with "It's up to you to lose the spot"

Forsberg - Byfield - Kempe
Arvidson - Danauld - Kaliev
Moore - Kupari - Vilardi
Grundstrom - Kopitar - Lemieux

Kopitar and Doughty in the pressbox might help them rethink their contract and no trade clause choices

Oh Kurri, you are wrecking the interior today. Way to go, man!!

Kopitar would be great as a 2c behind Crosby in Pittsburgh. Or in Boston between Marchand/Hall and Pastrnak. The Kings dont have those caliber wingers and no coach has enough clout to put him down the lineup. Kopitar is really the elephant in the room and Im sure they will just ignore it and roll him as the 1c again until he has not one drop of juice left. They wont win again with him as the 1c and he is too good and important to the franchise to take a back seat.

I always hear this but, can you provide me with a couple of folks who are comparables to Point or Kucherov who are getting paid significantly more than their $9.5 a year? I just looked at capfriendly and they compare Kucherov to Rantanen and their numbers are "similar" and Rantanen makes a little less. Point is a hard one to find a match for in terms of salary and when it was signed (a contract signed in 2016 doesn't seem a fair one to look at) but there didn't seem to be any crazy outliers.

I'm just not sure this "Tampa can pay you more by paying you the same" holds up under scrutiny. Granted I haven't gone through the entire roster to see...but I think them winning cups is more of a reason for guys taking a little less to be there than a ~5% difference because of state taxes.
When Hedman signed, he and Doughty were roughly equal, but he as able to sign for 4 million less to have an equivalent take home pay

I’m pretty sure if you asked Forsberg he’d be more excited to play with Kopitar than with Byfield.

My fear is that the Kings doomed the rebuild by making the playoffs this year. They de-prioritized development to get there and it will continue. Do you really think our coach wants to go backwards? He's a wash out coach that wants to redeem his name.

I just don't expect AK47, Byfield or Vilardi to play top minutes. We can argue who's fault it is for the failures of the youth (not counting AK) but they simply didn't take the opportunity and hold onto it. That's what they needed to do in order to play in quality situations and now that goes double. They are not exactly being put in a position to succeed. There is no room for rookie failures with the way things have gone. The Kings will continue to chase wins instead of letting them come.

it's a hard line to figure out. On one hand if you don't add veteran talents you could be Buffalo constantly drafting, developing and rebuilding.
On the other maybe Drew and some other vets should not be pushing the issue.

Byfield is a bust, and Jordan Spence is just another Paul Ladue.

They need to be moved out immediately.
This is a bit over the top and premature for you to proclaim.
But it is funny you mention Ladue. I thought many nights how Spences frame reminds me of him. Both showed a lot of promise early on. And I hope Spence can take the next step.
It would be eerily similar if Spence had a really bad showing in camp next season and loses confidence for his next call up. Its possible he fizzles out but I think Spence is gonna make it in the pros.

Fun fact, Paul Ladue has barely had HALF the season Spence had this year in Ontario (27 pts vs. 42 in fewer games as a rookie) and already has a better NHL pace.

So, Spence could stop now and he's already > LaDue. Come on. DOn't be lazy.
I think Spence is a better player. The similarity to me is how they are built and their style. Ladue moved the puck very well and was a good skater though not quite as fluid as Spence.

If it's a 'how they look' comparison I can see it. LaDue tried to be spicy despite his size too.

Hedman signed his deal in 2016 for a $7.9 million a year cap hit. Doughty was making $7 million a year at that time. Doughty didn't sign his deal for another two years.

This might be the longest summer we've ever had around here, and that's including lockouts and shutdowns...

AND...not to mention the 'what is Rob thinking?' after each move. They will surely come!

Many were not too elated with the Danault signing - 5.5 million, 6 yrs, for a 5 goal scoring center? 6 years? Where does Byfield slot in? Arvidsson - 'I don't like this one...smallish, oft injured and coming off a 10 goal year?"
Edler - 'he's still playing? obviously a depth signing, but don't get it'

Luckily, all surprised to the upside and helped propel the Kings in the playoffs. All 3 are gamers and played with passion. Great teammates.

That right there, shows Rob put a high value on character and leadership attributes. I think the next signings, acquisitions, will embody these traits as well....with possibly 1 of them, with more offensive prowess and
the other attributes, perhaps not in the elite character - leadership realms...but then again, no Evander Kanes.

Good lord…are you this dramatic in real life?

We need a Matt Green / Willie Michell signing…..but who? Soucy? Provorov?
We also need signing and a Jeff Carter / Gaborik by next year.. I think that’s Forsberg.. RV get on it!
