I'll also add that another player I'd LOVE to grab would be Necas. I'd guess he'll be shipped out either to nab a proven sniper like Fiala or to bolster the backend if Deangelo's next deal is too rich. However, I think his down year is not representative of his potential.

Maybe we can trade Vilardi for him one for one 🥴

I think the goal is to make a push right now, no? We're just about to start competing again. Hell we already did this season, if a little on accident.
Hate to say it but Kings aren't competiting for anything with Kopi as their 1C imo. He's my favorite player but he can't beat father time, he's still good and still effective, but next season he'll be a little older and a little slower, and the season after that even older and even slower. The window will only truly open when we get a prime 1C to take over. Danault and Kopi together is still a deadly combo for now, but I don't think it makes us contenders

Lizotte as the 3C, not so much.

Don't see Blake moving Cal & don't see how he can fill out the team with 10 on goaltending.

Great article in the Athletic today. Lisa Dillman interviewed Trent Yawney about the Kings' defensemen, and he gives his feedback on the seasons from Doughty, M. Anderson, Bjornfot, Roy, Durzi, Maatta, Edler, and Spence.

L.A. Kings defense analysis: Who does a coach expect to take a 'big jump'?

A little taste of quotes from Yawney. He has a lot more to say in the article:

Doughty: “I think he’ll pick up from where he left off and take it to another level. I know there’s another level for him, maybe more offensively than he even thinks."

Anderson: "He knows who he is. And he doesn’t try to be something that he’s not. He’s getting more physical, too..... His impact on the game is more about (playing) without the puck. His positioning. His play around our net. His penalty killing and ability to play against top forwards.

Bjornfot: "I would say his year was inconsistent. His ‘good’ was really good but his ‘average’ wasn’t good enough.... That’s not abnormal for a young defenseman. But it was a big learning year for him.... I’d like to see him make a few more mistakes with the puck – where he is skating and trying to make a play."

Roy: "I trust this guy in any situation. I could play him against anybody. I could play him on both sides.... Has a meanness to his game. Offensively, he’s got a big shot and he tries to use it."

Durzi: "He’s going to have to learn how to manage his game playing lower in the lineup and still provide the strengths he provided our team. But he can do it. He’s become a very good penalty killer. So he’s going to get minutes there and he can play both sides, which is a bonus. A lot of positives with him."

Mattta: "I don’t think you’d get any argument that Olli probably was the unsung hero on D the latter part of the season. He was consistent as he’s played all year long. Just a true professional. Low maintenance."

Edler: "He was huge for us – added that experience, that size and veteran savvy on the back end.... Great on the bench with the young players. If I was the coach standing there, then he was the coach sitting there.

Spence: "He has a chance to be a player in the league for a long time.... He was very consistent for a 20-year-old defenseman. He sees the ice well, moves the puck well. I think he is going to make a big jump next year. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t."

Thanks, I am not an athletic supporter...

Defense isn't our problem. Filling out the top 6 will be our problem.

The only way I could read that was with these...

Reading between the lines on that Athletic writeup leads me to believe Edler will be back.

Maatta sounds like they'd like back too but they prob won't be able to afford to keep him AND it's a crowded house unless Bjornfot goes back to AHL
Also they're comfortable playing Durzi & Roy on the left. Means any LD will have to be an improvement over them.

Edler, hope he is back on a cheap contract. Get his 1,000 games. Played real well with Roy before the injury.

I didn't see JS anywhere

Yeah that was the interesting part to me. With the whispers of Clarke potentially making the team next season, this could be big. It would, at least for a little while, relieve the RH logjam without having to make a trade. Thereby allowing our trade assets to be focused on a top 6 winger. Hopefully also a true tough guy with some skills. Or better yet, one in the same. I for one am willing to give up some good assets for 1-2 of the right guys. I'll let Blake figure out who that is ;)

From what I can gather from the ‘Insiders‘ they seem to think the expectation is that Clarke makes the roster, at the very least for his 9 games. That’s how I’m reading it anyway. This is why I expect someone significant to get moved because even if someone slides over to the left there still aren’t enough spots.

Zibanejad, Strome, Chytil, Goodrow
Kopi, Danault, Byfield, Lizotte

Seems like NYR has more experience on the bottom 6 Center position. Zibanejad is good. The other centers aren't very exciting. Just decent centers that get the job done.

When the Rangers were down 3-1, 3-2 to Pittsburgh, reading their board, they were digging into Zibanejad pretty good, who only had 3 assists at the time. Overpaid, how can we get rid of him, never going to win a guy like that as your 1C, etc, etc, etc. Normal fan stuff. Then you wait 5 minutes, and here are the Rangers up 2-0 on TB in the 3rd rd with Zibanejad leading the way.

Easy, sent TB to Ontario for a stint.
