I'm in the minority when I say this but I'd rather have Durzi than Spence.

Maybe Spence develops some snarl into his game as he ages but the fact Sean has such an enormous ball sack cannot be overlooked.

Personally it’s not how I’d look at it. I love Durzi’s heart but one player with heart isn’t enough. We need a number of players with those sorts of intangibles and if we have the numbers that have that then you keep Spence - not that it is what I’d decide on right now. At this point we need the best available skill on the ice then down the line we add intangibles as as we shift into win now mode. We need those players but not at the expense of a potentially solid top 4 guy.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s nothing against Durzi but purely as a head to head I prefer Spence. When I saw them both live Spence was easily the better player (and ahead of Roy also). If Durzi can play left that’d be cushty.

This series is often forgotten about. Seems like McLellan coached teams have a thing for not showing up in Game 7s.

Now what would be a modern day version of acquiring Justin Williams? Would Gabe Vilardi be enough to be considered a Patrick O’Sullivan like forward? A young, top six forward who presumably has his best years ahead of him. Unfortunately, things didn’t pan out for O’Sullivan, but now seems like the right time to add another top six forward for an unproven young player and second round pick.

Arvidsson’s style of play, plus his rash of injuries, reminds me of Williams. Kevin Fiala plays with quite a bit of spunk, but he’s likely to cost a bit more than that. Seeing Konecny’s name bandied about on the main boards, he’s in the right age at 25, but it’s yet to be determined how much of a clutch player he can be when the intensity picks up in the postseason.

I might have the timeline wrong in my head but didn't Clague also play first?

EDIT : Yes. He did.

Clague played 10/30 - 11/21

Durzi's first game was 11/24

Clague was claimed on waivers in early December

Durzi did more in his first 7 games than Clague did his entire stint as a King. Clague turned out, with a golden ticket in his pocket, never could figure it out at the pro level here. Durzi put a solid f-u snarl into the defense, which was really lacking.

May be Durzi’s enormous ball sack makes him slow and stopping him from playing good defense

You have got to be kidding me

Clague clearly wasn't the guy...but he was also symbolic of the development and deployment issues that are ongoing.

Crazy idea. Really liked Mikey's game in the playoffs. He was trying some new things. Doughty being out was the most likely cause. Mikey was no longer able to defer to Doughty. Should Mikey be moved off a pairing with Doughty for some games so that he can grow his game? Temporarily of course.

This seems like a deep summer idea, not the end of May one.

It's not even June yet? Going to be a long summer.

Crazy thought #2
If the Kings sign Forsberg: 9, 11, 9 seems logical. (Just realized another issue though.) Can Forsberg keep up with the minutes Todd will inevitably throw at Kopitar?

Durzi is only 23 (1st Season), Bjornfot 21, I'm not too concerned over their defensive mistakes at this stage of their careers.
I'm not concerned over defensive mistakes of Bjornfot. He is very good already and will be better.

I'm concerned over defensive mistakes of Durzi, because I believe his issue is his physical limitations. I do not believe he is ever going to be faster…

FWIW, Jack Johnson used to have all kinds of snarl too, but it quickly fizzled out under his complete lack of hockey sense. Guy went from a Tiger to a beaten pup.

I liked Jack, and I like Durzi too, but I don’t see any world where Durz is more Valuable to a winning team than spence.

I feel like I've said this a lot but Durzi's mistakes are minimized a lot by 1. giant set of balls and 2. Drew Doughty returning and slotting Durzi into a spot where he belongs.

We have enough stay at home/two way guys that we can afford a 'specialist'.

But I guess if the argument is that TM wouldn't be able to handle it, 'it' being minutes management/deployment/matchups, I'm on board with that, obviously.

All that being said, I'm still not sure what is with the push to turf a guy who came in, rubbed his balls all over the Kings, played admirably in Drew's absence, even up to 28 minutes some games, on a playoff team where he was default leading the defense. Yes, he's flawed, but he shouldn't be immediately expendable. And I say that as probable president of the Jordan Spence fan club.

i don't think speed will be as big an issue when he is playing less mins, learns the tricks of the trade , and doesn't have the pressure he was under here to start with . the kid isn't a #1 dman but played his heart out trying to be one and did get better almost every game , as a third pairing running the 2nd PP i think he will excel this season hopefully for us
