I think Kopi just needs a change of scenery. Anyone think he should be traded?

While no longer a full NMC, he still gets to choose 7 places to go. Those 7 places probably don't need him, even at 50%. He's already won, already got paid, and has a family. Why is he changing his scenery?

There's never been a word, or even a hint, that either Kopitar or the Kings want to see him traded. Yet we bring it up almost every day. Talk about scenarios for Chychrun, there are at least some rumors out there. Kopitar? No. He's never being traded. The only time, maybe, is if the team sucks come the 2024 deadline. But even then, he's not chasing the Cup. And, of course, he would still have to be a good enough player on the ice for someone to be interested.

If Carter's contract wasn't what it was the last couple years, he'd still be here looking like old crap. Kopitar will make as much actual cash in his last year as Carter makes in the last 3 years of his deal combined. And next year is another $7m on top of that.

The only thing that will happen with Kopitar is that maybe, maybe, his ice time slightly decreases as Byfield becomes a legit player.

4 years ago, would have been ideal.

Do you mean 4 years ago today? 1/23/18? When he was having a league wide MVP level season and taking the Kings to the playoffs? Or after that season, when he still had 6 years left with a full NMC?

Shoulda been traded in 2015, I tell you man, everyone knew it, everyone knew 7 years down the road this was coming, shoulda been traded along with Doughty for whatever we could get, future considerations, 7th round pick.....then they wouldn't be blocking the youth that isn't ready yet.

I was referencing his MVP/playoff fizzle out season as a “sell high” marker, yes.

Never said a word about the ease of making that deal happen, possible suitors, or even threw out an idea of a dance partner. Just said that it would be ideal, and I’d stand by it.

The kings were obviously not going to win a damn thing with the core of that particular team, and blowing it up after that season by shipping off Kopitar at his highest perceived value would have been ideal.

I don't even care to trade Kopitar, I accept as a franchise legend he's going down with the ship no matter what, I Just want todd not often playing him more minutes than #1 dmen get when he's still got some years left. Look how gassed he is already, it's never been more visible.

All that bluster about bringing in Danault to reduce his minutes has been complete road apples. Last i checked his average time on ice was actually UP from the last two years.

Lias Andersson + Alex Turcotte + Protected 1st.

Yeah this is my beef as well. If Kopitar was played more like a #2 center at this point I bet he's look a lot better, but our coach is a moron so that's not gonna happen.

Kempe is back!! Now have a better chance for a few wins this roadtrip. Almost hard to believe he's possibly missed more than a Doughty (when he was out 4-5 weeks) or possibly any other player on this team, if they missed games. He's become that good and important.

yeah i don't know about shipping turc and i'm not sure lias is the type of "1st rounder" they're talking about

there's something to be said for giving away "maybe"s for a proven product but i'd like to think turcotte provides more value to this org long term

I don't want to ship Turcotte but that's just me

But I think that's a fair trade for Chychrun because they both have some serious 'maybe's

Yeah, it's too early to ship Turcotte. He clearly is skilled and needs to fill out more to play his game effectively in the NHL. It wasn't that long ago that Iafallo and Kempe were the scapegoats in every one of our trade proposals. Way too early to give up on him.

Just depends on the return, Turcotte for Soucy, probably not, Turcotte for Makar, 100%.... obviously extremes on both ends etc, trading him for the right price isn't necessarily giving up on him.

I'm much more inclined to trade Kupari, Bjornfot, and a first for Chychrun.

Chychrun - Doughty
Anderson - Roy
Edler - Durzi

That's a pretty promising defense with a solid mix of age groups, and in gaining Chychrun, there's a pretty good chance we're only giving up a mid-range pick in a weaker draft. I think the first would certainly be lottery-protected.

If the rumors are true: Two former first round picks and a future first for Chychrun
I would offer Kupari-Bjornfot and a first. It probably won't get it done, my gut tells me they want Vilardi.

When is Edler expected back? I thought he was done for the season.

I'm not really sure. Haven't heard much. I assume he'll be back before the end of the season, especially if we're in playoff contention. If not, another defender on the left side wouldn't be the worst idea. I'm assuming that we'll probably send Maatta or Athanasiou in a hypothetical Chychrun trade in order to fit Chychrun in the first place, and if it's Maatta, that's two-thirds of our current left defensemen.

Perhaps we look into a guy like Soucy too. Not sure what it would cost, but we'd look a lot better adding Chychrun and Soucy.

Chychrun - Doughty
Soucy - Roy
Anderson - Durzi
