Why would a GM go to a game to scout a teams; players?

You could just watch video.

Anyways, I've never read too much into "GM X is in attendance" stuff. You get these reports every year. Never seems to matter.
A picture is worth a thousand words.
Being there in person with a 360* degree view and feeling everything that is going on is worth a thousand videos.

A GM could literally have his staff splice up footage of all of Walker's play from the entire season into a succinct package along with analysis. It's much more efficient.

On the trade board, people seem to think the cost for Gavrikov isn't just one 1st round pick, it's a 1st round pick PLUS.

It makes no sense for the Kings.
It doesn't. He's not that good. What made most 'sense', was instead of the senseless, 3 teams that leaped the Kings in the 2019 lottery, the Kings
stayed at #2 overall and took LHD Bowen Byram. His timeline would have been different and he would not have had concussions and be #1 LHD right now
on the Kings. But many things never make sense. The Kings would not have a hole at top 4 LHD.

Without a lottery, the Kings likely take Kakko at 2nd overall in 2019 and then Sanderson at 4th overall in 2020.

So, who is about the become 'the next Erik Cernak'?

I feel that some prospect is about the become sacrificed between now and March 3.
I am sure GM's have their scouts checking in on Chromiak...as he now has 11 points in his last 7.
Possible soon-to-be Erik Cernak's:
Chromiak, Laferriere, Pinelli, Spence, Turcotte, Kupari, Bjornfot.
(Grans, Madden, Fagemo, JAD, Helenius, Hughes, Thomas, will never become a Cernak-level-regrettable loss)

He’s a guy that im not going to be upset if he goes but JAD id rather keep as a 3/4 utility guy and let Lizotte go. Hes cheaper and he’s better. I get people lovr Lizzo’s effort, I just tend to see bigger flaws then the positives he adds.

I think Pinelli would be a great trade chip Id move sooner then later but agree with the rest of that list.

Is it possible to trade for Greenway ($3m), Vejmelka ($2.75m), and Chychrun ($4.6m)?
I don't think it's possible to get all three without losing our unprotected '23 & '24 1st round picks to Arizona. They should be asking for the moon for both players given their age, production, and cap hits.

As for Greenway, it looks like Minny is going to trade or not re-sign Dumba. Greenway needs a change of scenery, but the Wild also always need to create cap space. I could see them being interested in players like Kupari, Fagemo, or JAD. Ideally we would send Walker along to fill the RD spot left by Dumba's departure, but I bet they'll fill that from within with Faber or someone else.

Some people prefer to watch in-person than video. Or some prefer to have live viewings than just depending on video.

Some also prefer to have in-person meetings. Using a phone call/web cam, you can't see the complete body language of a person you are speaking to.

There are plenty of valid reasons for GMs to travel to these locations. And just because nothing comes to fruition, it still matters. Deals fall through. Groundwork will sometimes be laid and they may revisit a scenario in the future.

Would I guarantee the Kings are going to trade with Ottawa by the deadline? **** no. But could there be something done at the draft months from now? Or maybe the following season? Yes. There are interpersonal connections and reasons for all of this.

Video doesn't cover more than the third of the ice where the puck is at that moment. If you are trying to evaluate defensemen you need to be there in person.

Learned something incredibly valuable years and years ago from a former NHL defenseman - the biggest predictor of play is the weak side defenseman of the team possessing the puck. His positioning will always tell you if a turnover will lead to a dump in or an outnumbered attack, if the attacking team is going for it or holding back. You can't see that on video unless you have access to all angles. Positioning is just as important as puck skills for defensemen and you cannot fully evaluate them without that understanding.

Sure in that example. But when you are trying to acquire the player that you think makes your team a cup contender for which you are giving up good assets, you want eyes on from a body in the building to make sure.

Savard got a 1st and a 3rd. I think CBJ should rightly ask for the same.

there are obvious dots to connect with the Sens looking for Right Side D and the kings having too many.
Could lead to nothing, maybe a deal is offered and turned down, who knows.
I think they want to get rid of Zaitsev before they add anyone though, and we're definitely not taking him.

Great snippets from TMac on Turc via Stephens at The Athletic:
Alex Turcotte played 8:10, all at even strength, and had a 72.73 CF% while going 3-for-6 on faceoff dot. McLellan: "He gave us the game we expected from him. ... He was on a lot of pucks. He managed his game well. Had a couple real good scoring chances. I thought he was aggressive all night when he needed to be and smart when he needed to be. Good signs."

Todd McLellan on the Kings' Rasmus Kupari-Alex Turcotte-Samuel Fagemo kid line in Chicago: "Trusting minutes. I thought they were really good. They played with energy. They hounded pucks. Created some scoring chances. Checked. Trusted them. The whole night, there wasn’t a shift where I didn’t feel good about them."

I'd be snarkier about if I hadn't noticed Kopitar's icetime going down in the game as well. I love seeing JAD get 15 minutes at ES as he and Fiala were cooking.

You sure, because game after game all we hear is the he won't play the kids....won't play them, etc...but you are saying JAD got 15 minutes, I just don't see how that's possible...who got injured??
