- EP40 generating alot of buzz around the league
- Canucks are not willing to retain
- Kings and Red Wings have shown strong interest recently and previously

Red Wings would be an interesting trade partner. They can replace Larkin with EP40. They also have assets that the Canucks would be interested.

LA Kings are not flushed with prospects but they do have high draft picks. Canucks also just hired Richard Seeley who was running the King's farm team in the AHL so Seeley will have alot of knowledge in regards to prospects.

Proposal:

To Det
Ep40

To Van
Michael Brandsegg Nygardd
conditional 2nd round pick ( Becomes a 1st if Pettersson scores over 60 points and Detroit makes playoffs)
4th round pick

To LA Kings
Ep40

To Van
2027 1st round pick top 12 protected
2028 Conditional 2nd round pick ( Becomes 1st if Petterson scores over 60 points and LA makes the playoffs)
4th round pick

ITs pretty similar if you consider that MBN was a top 15 pick and has developed nicely. Canucks were apparently targeting him as well during the Quinn Hughes sweepstakes
He's not that great regardless of where he was picked. I'd take LA's 1st, that conditional 2nd is unlikely to hit, and try to draft a higher upside player. It's the better gamble for where Vancouver is at right now.

Outrageous LA return with that albatross of a contract. More likely to be:

Pettersen

For

Ceci, Dumoulin, and the 46 and 80 picks this draft.

No way Canucks are going to let go of Pettersson for that.

Theyll just hang on to him, and wait till he has 2 years left, retain on the 11.6 which will bring him down to 5.8 and easily get 1st round + at that point. No rush to trade him for pennies especially since they are rebuilding and nowhere near the cap ceiling.

Retention is a last option if there isn't a contract or two that can go the other way. 6 years left and for that term, I think the cap retention is like 15% based on deals for Kessel, OEL, Luongo, etc. Talking about $10 mill in real money (if he is paid evenly on his $11.6 mill cap hit). Should be able to figure out something to even it out contract wise.

Canucks will probably have to do a five year rebuild. They ran the team into the ground like the Sabres until 2014.
Just retain 50% and get a great return instead of trash.
It's like Pegula runs their team...

Wait till he has 2 years left? Isn’t that 5 years from now? And maybe our offers are starting points? You’re right though. The Canucks should be in no hurry, unless they “want” to move him.

This is what the article actually says, no where does it say either team is “strongly interested”. It’s just a non-reputable source sharing an opinion. Just a speculative click bait article.

“Sources indicate Vancouver remains willing to listen to virtually every scenario as it evaluates its future.

“I’ve heard Pettersson is available, but that would likely require a team to take on the entire $11.6 million cap hit. Still, I feel the L.A. Kings, who have a ton of cap space and not too many assets to trade, would be all over this. And if Detroit can only net a futures return for Larkin, they’ve shown strong interest in Pettersson in the past.”

Any transaction would require Pettersson’s approval because of his full no-move clause, creating another layer of complexity.

Still, rival executives continue to monitor the situation closely.”

EP has 6 years left. And only 1 player in NHL history has been retained at 50% for even 3 years and that was Hayes from Phi to STL. So, anything over 2 years at 50% is basically non existent in the NHL.

That's not how NHL teams operate.

FWIW, I don’t think the Kings have ample cap space. It’s true Kopi’s 7 Mil came off the books, but now they have Kempe at 11, bread at 11, and Doughty at 11 😳

If the Detroit Red Wings trade Larkin and do NOT get a comparable 1C in return, I think EP40 becomes a must. Yzerman cannot afford to lose Larkin and then not have a 1C in return.

Of course you would.

You’re a Sens fan and your whole fanbase despises us.

MBN is the best asset between both proposals and it’s not close.
Very true, but that doesn't change anything I said. Detroit fans overvalue their prospects way too much, he's nothing special.

If I actually thought MBN is a real threat, I would've encouraged Vancouver to go for him instead to get him out of the division. But I don't.

From Vancouver's pov, I'd rather take the guaranteed LA first that has the potential to net a player with a higher ceiling than him, or at worst, someone similar to him. I'd take that gamble any day if I was in their position.
