I had this sentiment when the kings were rebuilding
The Kings rebuild started in 2018/2019 (I'd argue the Muzzin trade in Jan 2019 was essentially the start of the rebuild)....

So if you're saying you've thought the Kings should've 'canned' Kopitar and Doughty since the 2018/2019 season...... How exactly would you have done that??

For context: Both players had a full NMC in 2018/19 and 2019/20. Doughty NMC up until this current season. Kopitar 7 team trade list from 2020/21 onwards.

So again.... How would you have achieved this idea of "canning" those guys???

Edit: Keep in mind you would ALSO have to get ownership to sign off on trading the team's two franchise players after just recently making the playoffs

Am I the only one who doesn't get the JAD hate???

Sure he's not the most exciting / best offensive player in the world but he's a pretty damn good overall hockey player IMO.

To have him as a 13th forward who can rotate in to the bottom 6 is pretty solid, no?
For me, its that he's blocking Turcotte. Turcotte has upside I believe that JAD does not. And secondarily dont want him concussed again. So ya JAD is a serviceable player, but he's D+6 and I think we see who he is and why not let Turcotte show if he has made a jump, can always send him back if not.

He hasn't become an NHL regular, which you kind of hope for a second-round pick (especially if you hope to get 2-3 NHL players per draft). He's under appreciated for certain.

I was hoping he'd be a reliable and regular bottom-six player by now.

I'm saying scoring was not an immediate need for a supposedly rebuilding team that had already drafted multiple forwards with high-end picks. And even if they didn't feel the forwards they drafted would eventually fill those needs, you still don't trade future assets so you can compete now while your org still has holes.

What teams declares a rebuild is over when the players and prospects they drafted and developed "aren't ready" to play in big roles? This is Byfield's D+4 season and he's finally expected to start in and stay in a top-6 role. Turcotte's D+5 season still doesn't have him expected in any major role. Bjornfot, Clarke, and Spence are all battling out for a bottom-pairing role. Kupari never played higher than the bottom 6. Fagemo hasn't played more than 10 games in an NHL season. There are a lot of apparently not ready players, so maybe the rebuild shouldn't have been over.

You yell at so many posters about how people need to be patient with the prospects but seem okay with Blake rushing into contention before the prospects are "ready". Blake set these expectations with his decisions and execution. So start yelling at him with the rest of us.

You've got teams that are DECADES into a rebuild, that haven't exited, and haven't done shit with it,

You want to wait for a unicorn (how many McDavid, Bedard like players are there? Hint, not many, since 2013 go back a nice round 10 years,

2013 - MacKinnon, Barkov
2014 - Draisatl (3rd)
2015 - McDavid, Eichel
2016 - Matthews Tkachuk

Etc I can keep going but honestly I'm sick and tired....literally....

But this is what you have right now when they traded for Fialia, and this is HockeyDB with it's messed up age process....

Kempe 24, Moore 26, Kaliyev, 20, Lizotte, 23, Grundstrom 23, Kupari, 21, Byfield, 19, Spence 20, Andersson 21 etc, this is the year they drafted Clarke, so 18 year old Clarke,....not much dynamic offensive players there, so the trade for a 26 year old dyamic wing, who can score...

So if you don't declare a rebuild over with that, when do you? Do you be Ottawa, and sign all their young starts to long term contracts and then find out you can't win f***all? Or Buffalo? or Detroit? or Anaheim, all those teams have been rebuilding, shit, EDM has been rebuilding for 2 f***ing decades, and everyone makes fun of them BECAUSE THEY STILL CAN'T WIN SHIT..... and yes I emphasized that, do you think their rebuild was done after they drafted McDavid? They have since drafting McDavid, drafted 4th OA, 22nd OA, 10th OA, 8th, OA, 14th OA, 22nd, OA, 32nd OA

When should EDM end their rebuild? After 10 or 20 years?

Yea, you have to be patience with prospects, but you don't rebuild for a decade or more like some people want

I'll tell you what. You look for when I said the Kings need a McDavid or Bedard for a rebuild. When you find that, feel free to respond and don't bother to until then.

I'm not arguing over words you put in my mouth.

Ok, so you tell me, when do you think the rebuild should have ended (or should it still be going, and if it should still be going, how long?) How do we not turn this into a 15-20 year old EDM rebuild, or a 10 year DET rebuild, or a god knows 25 year BUF/OTT rebuild (yes, a bit of hyperbole then)

just look at the Oilers starting with Hall in 2010. 1 WCF [ swept in 22' ] and 4 total rounds won. How many 1st overalls, including Mcdavid? They still can't get it right. As messed up as our org can be, it's never been that bad with asset management.

Do you think that Kopitar and Doughty were Rick dipietro? This concept and mind numbing belief that no one would take them on is so stupid to me.

Lombardi should’ve been given way more rope to right the ship considering he was the most successful executive this team has ever employed. I will die on that hill.

Meanwhile, Rob Blake is on year infinity of zero playoff wins and his seat his barely warm.
That’s because Blake doesn’t have anyone in the org actively trying to stab him in the back.
