I bet Van kicks the shit out of us tomorrow to stem that narrative that we 'want' vancouver.
Even if that happens I think the Kings could at least make it a good series. Imagine them trying to go 7 games vs Dallas playing only 3 lines the coach trusts.
They will get punished physically and by the end guys like Kopitar will have nothing left to give.

We have no f***ing chance against the Stars, or really Edmonton for that matter. Vancouver is the best we can hope for as far as matchups go...
I feel this way too.
First have the season I tried to stay on the PLD fence by thinking about how good he was for Columbus in the playoffs. Second half of the year I was pissed we didn't have an injured vilardi or cap space for a goalie. Now I'm like....what if he shows up, than I come back down to earth.

Even if they do I like how LA matches up against them better. All comes down to how healthy Demko will be though.

C’mon, the Canucks have stunk for multiple seasons in a row. They’re the best first round matchup by far. No size, no grit and their best player is injured in Demko. Neither Petersen or Hughes is better than Kopitar or Doughty.

Getting the seventh seed is the only chance we have to make the second round. At that point, it’s pick your preferred flavor of curb stomping.

I think I'm the only one left here who subscribes to The Athletic. There was an article yesterday titled Who are the NHL’s best shutdown defensemen and why are they so valuable? - The Kings are well-represented.

This was based on essentially top-4 defensemen by ice time per game for each team ,with a minimum of 40 games played. Then winnowed down by a combination of 5 v 5 goals against and quality of competition (weighted more heavily), and then finally judged by "Evolving Hockey's Regularized Adjusted Plus-Minus (RAPM)".

  1. Radko Gudas
  2. Alex Vlasic
  3. Drew Doughty
  4. Jake Sanderson
  5. Gustav Forsling
  6. Jonas Brodin
  7. Ryan McDonagh
  8. Matt Roy
  9. Jaccob Slavin
  10. Adam Fox
  11. Brandon Carlo
  12. Hampus Lindholm
  13. Chris Tanev
  14. Brent Burns
  15. Mattias Samuelsson
  16. Vladislav Gavrikov
  17. Quinn Hughes

I think is the only reason they’re seen as an “easy” opponent. Just optics. Reality is their core has won a series more recently than ours. They’ve been at the top of the division the whole year for a reason.

I mean out of the four possible matchups I guess they’re technically the least scary but let’s not act like they wouldn’t still be a huge favorite against the Kings.

Least bad matchup is still a really bad matchup. Which one of the other 7 Western Conference playoff teams do you see the Kings beating in a series, let alone 3?

Vancouver is good but its a good matchup for the Kings.
Miller is like their toughest forward and he isnt a bully more just tough like Kempe and Fiala are with contact.
They have a scrappy third line with Garland and hes just a Lizotte type pest.
Myers and Zadorov are tough but beatable like Englund. Soucy has been mediocre since coming back from injury. He is banged up.
The Kings seem to handle Hughes and Pettersen 5 on 5. I think the 1-3-1 works well against these 2 guys.
The real King killer on that team is Boeser. Glad Horvat is gone cause he was always good against the Kings also. Demko will be an x factor also.
All in all they stack up well vs the nucks on paper and have proven it true on the ice this year.

Best case scenario would be a first round matchup of Edmonton and Vegas. Get one of them out early and hope the winner is hurting badly.

To get Vancouver

Vancouver would have to finish 1st in the conference ( 3 points behind Dallas 6 games to go - will be tough)
and LA finishes WC2 or

Vancouver wins the Pacific but is behind Dallas (currently) and
Vegas(92) wins more games than LA(91) who have to win more games than Nashville(92) - a real thread the needle scenario or

Edmonton (97p 7 games to go) would have to pass Vancouver (102p 6games to go) and LA would have to pass Vegas
Vancouver would be P2 and LA P3

LA is looking at Dallas (LA would be WC2) or Edmonton (LA would be P3) in the 1st round
