I always bring it up re Sekera but they were also trying to keep him away from the Hawks

of course the Hawks went on to win with 4 dmen anyway but sekera would have been a perfect hawk too

The Lucic deal, gadzooks what a desperate grab. They didn't have any reasonable chance of fitting him under the cap the following summer. They didn't have the expiring contracts to provide any room, and move would have required losing a quality player off of the already weakened roster.

Taking a desperate swing is always bad business, and that deal proved that adding the right player at the wrong time is worse than doing nothing at all.

This for sure.....blow a bunch of assets for a guy you know damn well you cant resign...sometimes the best move is making no move and this a textbook example.

This post made me go back and look at the trade record and I'm just now realizing that the Sekera trade was the 2016 1st rounder.

Which means when they traded

Martin Jones (who could have been traded for a 1st)
Colin Miller (a RHD who has had himself a pretty decent 9 year career since the trade)
the 2015 1st rounder

They did so knowing they had no first round pick in 2016.

It's neither here not there it just makes the trade a little bit worse in my eyes.
I am no fan of Lombardi for what he did to a couple of friends in San Jose, but in his defense the Sekera trade never happens, had Voynov kept his hands to himself.

When Sekera got hurt, pouted about the Kings defensive style and then signed in Edmonton so he wouldn't have to play defense, it set off a string of moves to try to win a third cup.

As much as I would like to pile on Lombardi, but nobody in the NHL was going to give him any breaks when it came to trades at that time, Lombardi knew that to get anything he was going to overpay.

The fact The Mayor has to state the Blake TC had nothing to do with a major announcement (firing TMac is the obvious inference) says a huge amount about where things are at IMO.
exact thought that went through my head. Things are rough in Lala land right now.

We can't make roster moves due to cap restraints, can't keep playing like they have been playing, the NHL has figured out a way to get around our system. In my mind the only way to do things is start with yet another coach.

Before someone says look at our record, it is a winning record I will counter with - Yes it was working, but now the opposition knows how to defend it. Coach can't seem to find a tweak that works.

Concerned that Blake isn't on the hot seat enough to see panic trades yet. That at least will be entertaining. Maybe Kaliyev for a large vet bottom 6er? Spence for a backup goalie?

With Bjornfot, Vilardi, Kupari and the firsts traded in the Fiala and Gavrikov deals, the Kings have an even ratio of lost first rounders (5) to playoff wins (5) since McLellan was hired.

That's shocking ineptitude.
I just hope that Blake doesn't read this post.
Our next 16 first rounders would be traded away the next day to win the cup

they've lost 75% of their games outside the inexplicable road winning streak. That's just outside lottery territory. Once they come to terms with what their record is since after teams got settled, then we can be real. They're a team with 5 years of coaching continuity and far more of player continuity so of COURSE they were going to bully everyone else when they were well rested and teams were still figuring out their rosters. Now that things are dialed in for most teams, we're losing CONSTANTLY. And in one more loss they won't be able to deny reality becasue they'll be outside the playoffs and battling Calgary and Nashville and Seattle for a playoff spot vs. for the division with Van and VGK.

Should Flyers Trade for Kings Forward Arthur Kaliyev?

Funny article on WTF is LA doing out of Philly.

“You know who I’m wondering about here is Kaliyev,” Friedman started. “That’s a guy I’m kind of wondering about right now. Well, he’s not playing. It looked like this year they found a really nice niche spot for him, but he hasn’t been playing lately. I wonder what his future there is,” he concluded before immediately changing the topic to a different player.

They say when there’s smoke, there’s fire, and if you’re the Flyers, you would be wise to pony up your firetrucks and ladders to get ready to rescue Kaliyev from the Kings. It goes without saying that the price for any trade will be a major sticking point, but Kaliyev is just 22 years old and has been a double-digit goal-scorer twice in the NHL despite limited playing time.

The Uzbekistan-born winger stands at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, so size will be of no concern to the Flyers. Kaliyev has produced at about a 40-point rate throughout his career, though his production has slightly declined this year in spite of an uptick in his average ice time. It’s also worth noting that Los Angeles has not exactly been a beacon of hope for young players as of late."

The Kings could start winning some games again. Sports can be so unpredictable.

But right now it doesn't look great. What was supposed to be their strength, turned out to be a weakness.

Now if the goaltending starts to falter, or there's a major injury, things could really spiral downward.
