LA hasn't won a playoff series in 8 years, hasn't changed their #1C, D or G

I was surprised and impressed with the way the team played against the Oilers in the first round. Young skill and speed to burn.
Good job Rob Blake
Yea its not all bad. They have a solid team and are competitive. But talking about building a cup team that can compete with the Tampas and Colorados is a different story. They need a 1c 1d and goal scorer like Kaliyev to hit. Otherwise they will be like that Nashville team that was always hanging around and even made a cup final but in the end no dice.

I think what happened here is someone got tired about arguing with some other Kings fans about our core and tried to marshal support for their criticism from fans of other teams.

What they forgot to factor in is that we won two Cups in the past decade and that no other team's fanbase is going to feel any amount of pity for our playoff record or roster makeup since then.

I will add that in some respect I do hear and understand the criticism. The teams after 2014 were all disappointments. However, we initiated a rebuild well before many other teams from that era admitted it was over (Chicago, Anaheim, etc), and that's really all you can ask for. We also have the luxury of being a market where the ownership gives their blessing to truly bottom out. Not all teams have that luxury.

Rangers have a similar issue. Teams that "rebuilt" but still had a core of high end veterans so they couldn't spoonfeed opportunities to their hot young prospects so they appear to be developing slowly. We'll see in a few years if this method really hurt their development or not. Im hoping not.
It didn't hurt the Red Wings between the mid-90s and late-00s, so fingers crossed. :crossfing

Stagnation is a very real thing.

They aren't necessarily a problem individually, but they have gone 8 years without any kind of success and are still in the same roles. Kopitar has faded from an arguably top 10 center to a top 25 or so. Doughty still has plenty of rubber on the tires. 8 seasons is an eternity in sports, a very, very long time to keep the same formula in place without results.

The question is how long has your team gone on unsuccessfully without making changes to the core pieces of its lineup?
Gone from core (plus key members) that won the Cup 8 years ago

Carter
Williams
Brown
Richards
Muzzin
Martinez

Most teams with high-end veterans don't get #1 and #2 overall picks.

2022: Colorado Avalanche
2021: Tampa Bay Lightning
2020: Tampa Bay Lightning
2019: St. Louis Blues
2018: Washington Capitals
2017: Pittsburgh Penguins
2016: Pittsburgh Penguins
2015: Chicago Blackhawks
2014: Los Angeles Kings
2013: Chicago Blackhawks
2012: Los Angeles Kings

You could say it was the best ten years in Kings history. 23-25 other teams didn't win in the same period. Many also dream to have the same talent pool. Hopefully ready to win again soon.

They probably would have traded their aging core to aid a rebuild but they have immovable contracts (that they rightfully earned after winning 2 Cups). It's the same thing that happened to Chicago.

They may be old but they just about beat the juggernaut Oilers without their #1 defenseman in the first round.

The key to winning is consistency. Oop wait. Apparently that was a lie. I guess we can't boil down complicated team dynamics and competitive outcomes to singular/small subsets of arbitrary attributes.

They have two cups in the bank, winning a round now isnt easy as every playoff team is no pushover...As Kings fans should realise it may be decades before they win another cup
