A year ago everyone was extolling how great Kyrou was. Now everyone wants to dump him for peanuts. Playing with ROR and on new contract messed with his head a bit. He will be fine once he scores a couple and regains some confidence.
I wasn't. I've always said he's a joke defensively and he's even worse this year. He's been a f***ing joke all around since the all star break.

Kyrou has all the tool (maybe not size yet) to be a top line player. The thing with him is maturity. He's just a kid. We are seeing the fruits of his lack of maturity and consistency. Kids have to learn from the vets how to mature and how to play consistently. Maybe this skid will be a wake up call for him.

Kyrou is young. He has time to improve and he's at least earning his money. Anyone want to guess who is on track to hold the lowest sv% for a starting Blues goaltender in the last 25 years?

So crazy that it coincided with the worst defensive play we've seen from the Blues in the last 25 years.

It's almost like it's difficult for goalies to thrive in that type of situation.

Jordan Kyrou is one of the NHL's fastest players, and team defense begins with hustle.

Uhh, idk the years with Brewer as a #1 we're pretty bad
Agree, Brewer years were much worse than this as a defensive core. The forwards defensively as a group have been atrocious at supporting the defense. The -19 ENG speaks to an overall lack of team compete. We need more players with a constant motor going in general. This is why when Toropchenko is having a good game he's such a breath of fresh air.

Adding waiver guys who are eager to prove they deserved to be acquired usually results in some games with those motors going, hopefully it translates to other players who seem so comfortable in their jobs.

Stats can't tell the whole story but to at least give some context to our team defense being a special level of atrocious, I figured I'd throw this out there.

In Eric Brewers tenure (furthest I can go back on Natural Stat Trick is 07-08):
07-08: 2.56 xG/60
08-09: 2.52
09-10: 2.70
10-11: 2.76

This season: 3.51 xG/60

As far as high danger chances against:

07-08: 9.10 HDCA/60
08-09: 8.98
09-10: 10.00
10-11: 9.59

This season: 13.29 HDCA/60

Our team defense is taking suckage to the next level this season. I don't believe anyone who is blaming Binnington for this has actually seen how terrible the team in front of him has been game in and game out.

You think the defense in front of Binny is worse than the defense in the late 2000's? Seriously? Our defense, as bad as it is, isn't even bottom 5 in the league this year.

dont derail the topic onto defense or binny, this loser kyrou is suppose to be a key cog moving forward.

hes being paid alot of money and go read some of those posts on the first few pages. many people were fine with that aslong as he was a 90+ pt player and kept the PP red hot. Look what IS NOT happening for him this year. Hes gonna end up with probably 65-70 pts, a PP that is probably 25th or so and a +- well over -50.

Here is a 8 million dollar a year contract for your hard work and fantastic season Jordan. Love DA.

Money-wise, that contract is on par, and even a little cheap, compared to people in that range. There are plenty others on the team that aren't living up to the money they signed for by quite a bit more margin.

Keep in mind that the NHL average goaltending this year is .905 and that it went .909, .908, .911, .913 along with the stats for the Brewer years starting with 07-08. There have been rule changes to generate more offense where forwards aren't impeded as much. Scoring is up everywhere. I don't know if that accounts for all the discrepancy but I'll bet it accounts for some of it.

I’m not sure what made me think of this, but here it goes.

If we remove all of the good apples, then is the only remaining apple still bad?
It is if the basket you're keeping it in is laced with poison.

My opinion(and I think a lot of people agree) is that the problem we're having on defense is a coaching issue. Won't matter what players we put out there until a change is made to our structure. And given the past performance of some of our D men, I want to see how they do in a different structure before we do a wholesale purge. We should not be nearly as bad as we've been.

Ahhhh......nice reply!!!!

I knew that my seemingly-abstract reply had to make some sort of sense and this is it.

I subscribe to the notion (fact?) that much of our woes on D are coaching related, hence, the poisoned basket.

A poisoned basket taints all apples.

I also think the "poison basket" metaphor can apply to the entire situation of the season. The coaching problems and other issues snowballed into trading away assets and while we'd all love our players to be terminators who aren't the least bit affected by the situation around them and play at 100% of their talent level every single time they're on the ice, but the fact is I don't think it's realistically possible to avoid getting less than efforts from large portions of the team even with good leadership and coaching when you've been a Cup contender as recently as last year and things go so poorly the organization itself is forced to trade away any hope of being there again this season.

I'm not saying this to excuse Kyrou's play or anyone else specifically, but I think it'd definitely an issue with making any long-term diagnosis of what is actually wrong with this roster or specific players on it.
