I liked his comment about being knowledgeable about the Pens NHL/AHL rosters already just as part of his responsibilities as GM of Toronto.

It makes sense. If you're the GM of a team in the East you should thoroughly know every roster situation in your conference at the very least.

Dubas should already have a good idea of this team's strengths and weaknesses. And it sounds like he does.

Strength:
Crosby
Malkin

Weakness:
Everything else...

Well you can count on WBS'ers getting more of a shot moving forward with this hire, if they deserve it.
Good news for people wanting to see Puustinen tried up here.

It sounds like there's strong odds he'll be the interim GM through the key days in free agency even. I don't think they're gonna hire someone smack dab in the middle of a critical juncture.

Considering how much of a GMs annual work is done in free agency, Dubas is gonna end up basically as a semi-GM for the year.
Unless of course they hire someone very quickly. But the way he spoke, it doesn't sound like that's happening.

No one cares. The conversation is about compairing Spezza to Sideshow Bob. Who you taking?

I think Dubas will have the power to fire Sully if this team goes into another tailspin and he pins coaching as an issue (which it will be).

I just don't have faith that Dubas or anyone else would immediately pin Sullivan as a problem if, for example, he rode GCRust to another miserable 20 games.
Mark my words, he will work towards firing Sullsma the second Keefe becomes available.

Keefe of course is a huge downgrade in a vacuum, but he is a Dubasite so he has that going for him I guess. Also, this team has rode the new coach wave before, and it does seem like anything is better than Sullsma at this point.

The one thing I'm a bit surprised with Dubas wanting the Pens gig is he seems to be in it for the long-term, but he came to a team that's got about a 2-3 year window before it gets blown up and started from scratch.
He is POHO so he has enough Teflon for one full-on rebuild I would think.

The new GM/AGM can take the fall, if necessary.

Perhaps I'm too much of an optimist but I don't see why we can't have a good season under Mike Sullivan. I think he's stale and I wouldn't object to replacing him, but this isn't Mike Johnston or Edzo we're talking here.

He's still more likely than not to coach this team into a playoff spot I think.

Here is how the Calgary Flames did with Brad Treliving as their GM:

2014-2015: Lose in the 2nd round
2015-2016: Miss the playoffs
2016-2017: Get swept in the 1st round
2017-2018: Miss the playoffs
2018-2019: Lose in the 1st round
2019-2020: Lost in the 1st round after winning the qualifying round
2020-2021: Miss the playoffs
2021-2022: Lose in the 2nd round
2022-2023: Miss the playoffs

Leafs fans should be more concerned with the loser GM they just hired to replace Dubas rather than coming to shit talk Dubas here.
Don't forget that moist Neal contract.

Dubas and whomever the next GM is need to Sully-proof the roster as much as possible. That's gonna be a whole lot of changes to the bottom-6 and leaving room on the roster for a 4th line with a DOC-Poehling combo.

Sully's still gonna GCRust this team to awful stretches, but making the playoffs shouldn't be difficult. Half the damn teams make it.
