I honestly forgot Brian Boyle even played for the Penguins and he probably would have been their best bottom-6 guy last year.

Anyway Dubas has a lot of work to do with the bottom-6. The only guy in the bottom-6 I actually want to keep right now is O’Connor and maybe Poehling, and I think I’d prefer Poehling as an extra over a regular player.

I think the players who had success are players who have lacked consistency in their careers. In 2021-22, for example, you had a career year from Evan Rodrigues, solid half year from an aging Jeff Carter, a surprising offensive performance from Brian Boyle, and Danton Heinen rediscovering his scoring touch.

It shouldn't have been a surprise that Carter continued to age, Rodrigues priced himself out, and Heinen came back to earth. We were all counting on there to be some carryover when that wasn't necessarily likely.

Fair, but what else are we expecting from a team that's got a dearth of young talent and a lot of cap tied up elsewhere? It's always going to be about finding gold in the discard pile in that situation.

I would like Archibald back. I think he made a difference when he played.

Really happy about how this turned out. I think they got the best guy or at least one of the top two. We're going to move in the right direction now.

I think you can get someone who provides a similar element to Archibald that is capable of producing more though. Archibald’s speed was really nice last year but you can’t have multiple sub-20 point players in your bottom-6.

At absolute minumum, Dubas should completely redo the 3rd line and make the 4th line O’Connor-Poehling-Carter. I’d honestly be hoping for even more than that.

Some of you guys act like this makes Penguins Stanley Cup contenders and Crosby and Malkin magically get younger...

I would gladly keep DOC and Poehling and even Nylander in the bottom 6 if it allows us to spend more on other impact players such as Bunting, Bertuzzi, Athanasiou, etc. We can't be afraid to have some money in the bottom 6.

Granlund is a complete wildcard at the moment. If he's staying, I would try to get Sprong back. Or a player like Sprong. Someone who has a good shot that is willing to shoot. Granlund is a pure playmaker so we need to balance that with a shooter. That said, ERod wouldn't be the worst to bring back. An interesting line might be DOC-ERod-Granlund.

Now you're being silly.

This is another topic, but Bud has a long way to go coming back from their 15 billion in sales loss from their "hate all men campaign." There is a new saying. "Go woke, get broke"

Ehh, yeah, okay, good point.

I would like better than Archibald.

Given the resources available, I wouldn't be surprised if there's guys on the roster who make me think "I miss Archibald". I think his ability to finish chances (for a 4th liner) and the fact that his team's bottom six is usually higher scoring for having him on the ice means I'm okay with him not notching up a lot of assists.

Agreed.

Unless deployment is changed I would not count on big production from L3 regardless.

I'm hoping they remake that line into a heavier, defense-oriented line that can lean on guys and help lock down games. Because trying this three scoring line stuff is smashing face first into a wall multiple times and hoping eventually you break through.,

Well you can count on WBS'ers getting more of a shot moving forward with this hire, if they deserve it.
Good news for people wanting to see Puustinen tried up here.

It sounds like there's strong odds he'll be the interim GM through the key days in free agency even. I don't think they're gonna hire someone smack dab in the middle of a critical juncture.

Considering how much of a GMs annual work is done in free agency, Dubas is gonna end up basically as a semi-GM for the year.
Unless of course they hire someone very quickly. But the way he spoke, it doesn't sound like that's happening.
