10M is Bobrovsky is clearly a pretty big screw up, but the fact they've done that and have still iced a team this solid is pretty impressive.

They are trading because they feel they have a strong window now, and they do. Stronger than ours and still giving us less than Dubas has in terms of picks over the last couple failed years.

Their prospect pool is arguably better than ours as well, so this take is strange.

Barkovs contract renewal starts next year, Huberdeau is due the year after.

They have 3.5 mill in cap space this off-season with 14 players signed, meaning they need to somehow get 7 players minimum signed with only 3.5 mill while also considering the likely 5 mill raise Huberdeau is getting the year after.

They have no 1st round pick and 1 2nd for the next 3 years so how could they even be buyers moving forward?

As for their prospect pool, it was ranked 19th in January compared to Toronto at 15.

And non-roster prospects? It's thin.

What are they going to do with goaltending? Pay 15 mil between Knight and Bob?

Lundell looks good.

They are betting on now though, their future doesn't look great.

Their future is pretty much fine. Barkov, Huberdeau, Lundell, Ekblad, Weegar, Knight.

So lemme get this straight. Signing a 23 year old ppg+ Game breaking all situations forward to 11 is egregious but giving 10m to a 30 year old Jekyll and Hyde goalie is just a workable screw up?
Giving up less picks? Now you’re just lying. They literally have no firsts or seconds, we have all ours and only wasted 1 in the foligno deal. (Marleau 1st is negated by getting a pick 2 slots back plus our expansion draft penance for Kapanen)

You can afford some mistakes when you have some guys on fantastic contracts like Barkov and Huberdeau.

How many guys on our team are making below market value versus making over market value?

I would also love to have a Bobrovsky problem versus having literally zero NHL goaltenders right now?

Two and three years for the big forward FA’s still have all our picks and have ample cap maneuvering to fill that hole. Ya know if Florida looks so good, why not just go over to their boards? It’s exhausting listening to you just make shit up

So in order to be a Leafs fan I need to think our team is the best in the NHL?

What a laughable take.

I disagree, but sure.

Barkov - acceptable contract that kicks in next year (still think he is overrated though)
Huberdeau - this year and next, and then a HUGE raise (hope he wins the Hart haha)
Lundell - Good for 3 years.
Ekblad - Good contract, always injured.
Weegar - this year and next and then a raise.
Knight - this year and next and then will get a big raise (15 mil in goalies will be terrible)

Dubas should be trading our next 3 firsts, 2 seconds, and some prospects for a run this season, that is what Florida has done and you seem to like their strategy.

Can probably pick up Klingberg, JT Miller, and Schenn for that.

If I believed we were a few pieces away from a cup that could be gotten by those draft picks, absolutely. Instead we just keep trading the same picks to not make the team materially better or give us a real shot.

You think we're going to get better next year? We've been steadily getting worse over the last few years as the players we do have demand higher contracts.

I can't take you seriously if you think we have gotten steadily worse.

Both of those guys are coming up in a few seasons and are due hefty raises. How much more cap do you expect our guys to take up than they already do? Florida is going to have to nearly double hubs and Sasha’s current cap hits.

Why is there a need to put down the Panthers in order to prop up Dubas? Shirley his tenure can stand on it's own.

To argue against the guy whose bringing up the panthers to criticize Dubas?

Why can’t we compare the Leafs to other organizations, both now and moving forward, to evaluate the job Dubas is doing?

I agree, they are in a terrible situation after next year, but really - we aren't in much better of a situation. We have basically the same number of players to sign in twice the cap space, and that includes a starting goaltender.

They also have some pieces that would be easy to trade and get some great pieces back as their value is pretty high. We have what? Kerfoot?

Prospect pools are admittedly a toss up at this point, agreed.

That’s not at all what I said. Clearly their not, I’m just trying to figure out what you get out of a situation you hate? Obviously everything sucks to you, so why bother?

Grass is greener…

Does the salary cap only effect the Toronto maple leafs? They can’t keep all those pieces. Barkov and Hubs are due huge raises and there isn’t much money coming off, not to mention a pretty hefty buyout penalty next season for Yandle.

I don't understand the point you're trying to make here. I've been a fan for decades, no matter how bleak their prospects are, no matter how bad the on-ice product has been, and I still watch, I still care and want them to do better.

If you're saying you're here as a bandwagon fan as you think they're great and are going to win the cup, you do you. I've been here for a long time and will continue to be regardless.

Maybe I should rephrase that. The roster has gotten worse - and I'm not sure what the debate here would be to the contrary? We have lost strong pieces as cap casualties.

The players we have are definitely playing better, that's true. Our top line is playing at their best in their primes and are carrying this team.

The roster is not worse, your opinion is they are, but the facts don't support that, sorry.

Barkov already re-signed.

The roster is straight worse than last year's. Bunting and Hyman are a wash, and our goaltending this year is flat out worse.

But confused by the Panthers discussion. A team which hasn't achieved a single thing more than the Leafs . The Florida team that's the gold standard for success is Tampa.
