You talking about the leagues 7th leading scorer as well? I guess you’re right. 7th in scoring is pretty good. At the prime age of 27

I’m talking about the guy who is currently cooking with 30 points in his past 15 games, has gained 8 points apiece on Kucherov and MacKinnon over the past month, despite their recent efforts of 5-6 point games, and has the league’s third highest PPG in history which he is still increasing as he approaches age 28.

Sure, he’s currently 7th in raw scoring in mid-December, yet he’s working on a 9th consecutive season of being no lower than second in PPG, and top three all ten seasons of his career. He’s where he is despite missing three games due to injury—essentially four since he played a mere 37 seconds when he exited—and had just 10 points through 11 games and fell behind by 15 points. It’s going to be pretty damn silly if McDavid is in the midst of another 150 point Art Ross and you’re crowing about one of the most proven athletes ever not leading the scoring race in mid-December.

I know you badly want McDavid to not tie Mario with six Art Rosses, and also not widen the gap further between McDavid and Crosby, but barring more missed time, McDavid is looking primed to scoop it up. Sorry that you can’t see the difference in a Kucherov or MacKinnon with the Jaime Benns of the world confusing Crosby at the same age.

McDavid is currently remolding the Big Four into a Big Five. It’s inevitable. You can’t stop it. Embrace it like @WalterLundy showed you did less than six months ago.

Yea true, probably mattered the most against Detroit, where Lidstrom-Rafalski + Zetterberg blanketed Crosby all series letting Malkin take advantage of Stuart-Kronwall + Datsyuk.

Datsyuk only played 4 games that series, pretty sure Malkin had 2 points in those games and 6 in his first 3.

Kucherov, Mackinnon, & McDavid's Year-and-a-half-long scoring race must be what it felt like watching guys like Lafleur, Dionne & Trottier back in the day. You had the 09 season with Crosby, Malkin & Ovi but it was pretty short lived and Crosby wasn't at his best (plus, they didn't all represent different franchises).

It's a great time to be a hockey fan, probably the best the game has ever been in my lifetime.

Im saying it right now, but Kuch will shatter his previous career total and is a lock for 160pts and another 100 assist this season. I could seriously see him go for a higher total for assists, somewhere in the 125-140 range.

People were tripping out thinking a PP merchant like Stamkos was going to cause a huge reduction in his production lmao

He's 100% better than Ovi all time and is the GOAT Russian player easily IMO. 9 Rockets be damned.

lol wut. Youre predicting a 60g 100a 160p season? That has been done 5 times ever (4 Wayne, 1 Mario)

Then 125-140 assists?! 125+ has been done 3 times, all Wayne.

I get it, you think he's great, but youre tossing out some wild numbers.

Maybe I am, but this mfer is the reincarnation of Gretzky as a winger, his entire offensive arsenal is perfected to a tee. Elite passer/playmaker who rarely makes mistakes when an opportunity is given, disgusting shot, a very cerebral game with an insane IQ. He's just a point production monster who can easily pace for a 120-130pt season. Point being his 1C definitely makes it easier but you put Cirelli or Paul and he's still putting up the same numbers regardless. Kuch is a top 3 winger when it's all said and done

Gretzky is the only player to hit at least 115 assists, which he of course did seven times. Calling for 125-140 assists when the greatest hockey mind the game has ever seen cleared 125 “just” twice and 135 once is way out of line.

I like the prediction for back to back 100 assists seasons and breaking his still newly minted career high though. It means more fun for the league.

I’ll be cheering and enjoying every moment of however this race unfolds. Kucherov is building a hell of a legacy for himself.

Those numbers are a bit out there lol but I do think if he wins another art ross he takes the title of best player in the world from Mcdavid and the title for all time best Russian from Ovechkin.

gretzky is probably 3 tiers above Kucherov, McDavid 1 or 2.

Again - how many players have outscored Kucherov in a season? Too many to count.

Let's level the playing field since Kucherov came in at age 20. How many guys have out produced McDavid in a season since he was 20 ....3? Pretty sure it's:

Kucherov
Mackinnon
Draisaitl.

That's it, that's the entire list.

Now give me 5 mins while I go list all the players who have produced better than Kucherov in a season in his career. It's long, man.

He's a great talent , Jagr esque talent. But he's not on McDavids level

things are only how they are, you have your opinion but he didn't

He got crushed and the players took mackinnon too. It is what it is
As a huge Kucherov fan, I actually think this is pretty accurate. Kucherov is on the Jagr tier. Still behind Jagr, but catching up -- especially if he outproduced McDavid another time or two. But McDavid remains, IMO, the league's only generational talent, and somewhere inside the top 10 all time already. Nobody's on his tier right now.

Kuch's Pts (Ovi has him beat but that's only because of longevity), Playoff Pts, PPG, Playoff PPG > 868 goals
Ovi's first 750 GP (the same as Kuch):
887 P played in DPE 2.0; 135 goals more; 2 more Harts; 2 more Lindsay; 3 more Rockets; 1 more Calder (also would be 1 more Ross if NHL didn't ban him) than Kuch.
About PO. Kuch is riding on a much better team, which plays better w/o him:
TBL P% w/o Kuch =.670
TBL P% with Kuch =.638
WSH P% w/o Ovi =.514
WSH P% with Ovi =.611
TBL w/o Kuch >> WSH w/o Ovi (.670 v .514)

Small sample size so far, but Kucherov is leading the league in "true" pts/game. (pts vs goalies)

Kucherov 42 pts in 25 gp 1.68 ppg
McDavid 40 pts in 25 gp 1.6 ppg
MacKinnon 40 in 31 gp 1.29 ppg

So far this year MacKinnon is the empty net merchant lol. And before someone tells me McDavid played 26 games, I am aware of that, I just not counting the game he played 30 seconds of icetime.
