No...the real Master Plan is that Kruger cones back...Stars on the playoffs making him desirable for trading
.So Stan offers Kruger Shaw Bickell our 2 4th s and 2 5th s this year plus Sick Hands (Nick Schmaltz) plus Pokka to Columbus for their first rounder which is probably #8 or #9 since they always win games at the end of tge season to put them out of top range and of course will have zero luck in the lottery (probably get pushed down 1 ..So they will feel they lost bourbon all the top prizes this year and instead will trade to improve depth and futures at te same time ..So we dump all of that to save cap...re-sign Ladd and draft tge steal of the draft with the Columbus pick (given our vaunted scouting staff) ..Of course that kid will be German Rubtsov who will immediately become our best defensive forward already at 18 years old and make Toews and Hossa alkeged 2-way greatness mere nothing in comparison to the new Bergeron that Rubtsov will be ..Furthermore since Rubtsov refuses to take shifts off, Q will be forced (by Stan) to close his Country Club...Ah yes.
.Stan is a true genius when he pulls this off!

Even with the best care money can buy, guys have nagging pain or complications. It is the reality of surgery, especially on the wrist. Then there is rehab and building strength back up.. The point is, every player recovers differently and it hurt NOTHING to wait and see.

How do you know it hurts "NOTHING"? You in the room?

Maybe this deal has been on hold for weeks while the Hawks have been evaluating progress and determined he's ready now? Maybe original offer was 3.5 x 3 and Kruger took a pay cut to sign early. Maybe Stan is hearing rumblings around the league about Kruger at the deadline and knew his value was up and he wanted him now. Maybe Shaws agent wants 5 million a year and Stan felt he needed to move on Kruger.

So how long would you wait? You know every team in the playoffs is going to slash that wrist, right? Do you wait until after the playoffs?

This just isn't true. Toews has by far the best GA60 of all the PKers this season and Desi has better #s than Krugs and Hossa. Although for Hossa its mostly bad luck, Kruger gets shelled with shots.

I guess I am looking at more than just 'this season' when making my comment. And using those stats shows how ****ing worthless they are when it shows Desi > Hoss.

Just to remind everyone what $a $3.25 million a year player gives in value these days
..Mr.Kruger was at 0 goals and 2a in 33 GP and -5 ...tge prior year for tge whole regular season he finished at -6 ...but he us good a faceoff! SO I guess that is why he gets thise bucks...Was our PK any better in tge first 33 GP such that the PK "value" also justifies this outrageous over-pay?

Toews deal looks horrible at the moment.

Toews and Kane deals were touted (I believe) to look bad when they were signed off their ELC's. Let's see how it looks near the end of it. If it looks like a bad deal at the start, and a steal in the end, it's fair value. Kinda like how their previous deals were.

Toews deal looks horrible at the moment.

So K&T's play for contracts going 7 years is judged by this current seasons production alone? Because there is nothing about this moment that makes any sense to profoundly say well toews will be below average 2-4-6 years into the future while Kane will be beyond that 2-4-6 years on his contracts future.

False. I'd wager his contract was based on much more than 33 games this year and last seasons plus/minus. Nice try chief.

People in an uproar about summer 2017. How about we worry about this season, teams in this league wish they had our problems.........

That would imply the majority of hawks fans arent spoiled from the success of a team that came out of no where to them, in a sport no one knew about.

I'm glad that Stan chose to keep Kruger over Shaw. I think he's the more valuable piece. However, like several of Stan's recent contract extensions/trades, it seems like a questionable move at best. Kruger is worth $2.5 max and probably $2.0M to a cap team like us.

To put this in perspective, many people on here thought Saad was worth a $3-4M bridge contract. I recall several people bringing up comparable players to Saad who were given bridge contracts in that range. There were even some reports that Bowman's initial offer to Saad was in that range. And now Kruger just got paid nearly that much.

I mean, not really the case on these boards. Most of us had been Hockey (some even Hawks!) fans for years before hand.

I didn't have that luxury because I live in BFE Illinois. Never could watch a Hawks game, hell I didn't even know they had a team until my parents got around to getting that whole internet thing, all I ever really got to see was Detroit and Colorado tearing up the playoffs, same for NJ in the Scott Stevens/Scotty N days, so on and so forth.

I would argue most here are long suffering Hawks fans, or long standing hockey fans. As one of the latter, I kind of get the freakout. Even bandwagon fans are pissed when their (recent) team goes on the downswing, that's kinda why they're bandwagon fans.

That said, I think the accomplishments of this team's current era of players/management will engender A LOT of goodwill towards hockey for a long time in Chi-town. Sure, at some point we'll be lamenting the "good old days" but remember, some people are also just so glad to see the passing of the "bad old days" that any move they disagree with will get scorn from them. I don't agree with it, but I understand it.

We are spoiled, that's for sure. Hell of a lot better than being a perennial bottom dweller like the Hawks under DBW that hockey fans in the majority of Illinois (trust me, there's more than you think) that never had a chance to root on their team.

I'd have been a Hawks fan all my life, if I had that chance. So, when some of us give Bowman the benefit of the doubt, yeah, it's because we're spoiled. Hell, maybe the wheels fall of this "Red Machine" next year. If that happens, who cares. Most of us will still be here, some will still be myopic, pining about the golden age. Some will be gone, because the bandwagon train is off to the next station.

The ones left, though? Those are the Hawks fans. We all have our reasons, and we all have our disagreements, but could we at least be civil about it, NOT cut each other down?

Sorry, Scar, this wasn't really directed at you even though I quoted you, I...just kinda got a little bit ranty there for a minute. Apologies.

I'll get off my soap box now.

I guess if you look at it a certain way, its a little rich, but just over 3 mil for our 2nd most important center, I'll take it. And lol at anyone keeping Shaw over Kruger...and I love Shaw but he's by far easier to replace. This deal was in the works the moment Danault was traded. Glad to know Kruger will be here for a little while longer, love his game.

Kruger isn't close to important as Anisimov.

This seems really rich. Wasn't this one of those contracts (like Kelly) that really got Boston in trouble? First name I thought of.

I like roadkill alot, but not for more than 2mil.

I'm thinking a bunch of thoughts:
Bowman must have a way to unload Bickell linedup already
The cap is going up a little more than anticipated
He has plans to land cheap wings lined up already
He's taking care of Kruger for outplaying his previous contracts.
Shaw is gone

Marcus kruger is a lot better than chris kelly. He turns possession with tough matchups regularly. His "no offense" this year was atypical and with ahl linemates. Schmaltz or similar instead of shaw is all it takes to fit this really. Kruger deserves this and has been a monster weapon for hawks especially after he improved his faceoffs.

this is the kind of stuff Dale Tallon got fired for. Not happy about the extension. Thats way too much AAV. Where is Panarin bonus gonna go, where is Panarin contract gonna go. Shaw is probably gone. Oil better come back up, or this is gonna hurt. I love Kruger, he is important, and I get that he took a cheaper deal. But honestly, real dollars don't matter. AAV matters.

bye Shaw

I've felt the 1 role-player that one ought to make room to pay for is a shutdown center and that's his role. I never felt Bollands 3.25 contract was a contract that was assuming he was going to be a real #2 center.. I always still thought of that getting earned for playing a pk and aggressive role against top players of other teams.

I mean, it's kind of important to have them both, right? Having Kruger lets Anisimov and thereby Kane and Panarin feed off weaker competetition.

The Party line seems to be doing just fine with Kruger having a really down year/injured.

Kruger is a really, really good defensive center the past few seasons. Let's not invent theories as to why Kane is tearing the league up.
