Sounds like Maroon is being massively overvalued here.

I get that EDM got burned on the Hall/Larsson trade, but EDM needs to solidify their D (which TVR help does) far more than they need Maroon moving forward.

Not to mention it helps EDM stay young and cost controlled on the blue line (TVR is 3 years younger)

Not saying TVR is a prized pig, but neither is Maroon, and Edmontons needs on defense far outweigh their needs on offense and TVR would definitely be an every night contributor moving forward for EDM. Not a fringe 6/7 type guy

They can "solidify" their defense by doing any number of things that don't involve trading away Patrick Maroon.

Just funny that Maroon, and all his glory of 27 points and 12 goals last year (throw in a bunch of hits) is more valuable to Edmonton than a #5 dman they more desperately need

Those hits alone are likely more of a need than the difference between van Riemsdyk and whoever they end up getting.

I also think you might be getting carried away with how much of a "desparate need" they have for a #5 defenseman.

Take your sell job elsewhere, we're not buying what you're selling. Maroon is not going anywhere.

We're actually quite happy with the way Larsson's looked also btw, but thanks for your concern.

They "desperately need" a bottom-pairing defender? Is that a serious statement?

No team needs that. They're available on waivers every pre-season. TvR would be nice as the return for a player in need of a change of scenery (re: Yakupov) but there's zero incentive to move a guy who has fit in well and scored near a PPG down the stretch for a #5. I don't know why you'd ever think that a logical move for a team to make.

Then why do you want him?

Yea, how many NHL regular season games has that been so far?

Then why do you want him?

There is a difference between seeing value in a player and over-valuing him

Edmonton has clearly done their fair share of over-valuing players the last decade, which is the large reason why they are where they are

14 points in 16 games with Edmonton. He's been great this preseason and has become a real leader for the team. Not to mention his beauty contract for the next 2 seasons. No interest in dealing him for a #5 Dman, none whatsoever.

There's over valuing potential

Maroon has results

Not trading him for another dman who won't make a difference isn't overvaluing

Correct me if I'm wrong here oilers fans but next year Sekera Larson and Klefbom will be the three defenders protected so unless the upgrade on defence is not someone who would likely be claimed wouldn't it make more sense to save assets until after the expansion draft?

Andrej Sekera has a NMC? Hahaha. Brilliant.

Stay gold, Chiarelli. Stay gold.

Can't win the argument on its merits, so has to insult the team. Sorry, you've lost.

How is it insulting to say they overvalued the players they have held on to and built around over the years. You take it as insult but thats merely the fact of the matter. Its also the reason Chiarelli has been trying to clean house in a sense

It's not "fact of the matter" because you have no idea what they've valued their players at. You're guessing.

I wonder if they take a look at Russel? Nurse hasn't exactly shown amazingly either. Benning has been the one that looks good.

Who's a relatively cheap second pairing RD EDM could get?

Klefbom - Larsson
Sekera - ???
Russel - Davidson
Gryba

They won't want to add a major piece until after the expansion draft surely.
