I can confirm. He's got some entertaining views however unlikely to happen they might be.Likely only Pens fans know who he is.

Ah typical Habs. And I want 3 supermodels and a bucket of Viagra...
Mark Madden isn't an insider. Neither is Rossi or Yohe or any Pens reporter. Most if not all are just boot lickers that never dare to question Sullivan because they won't get any answers from him ever again if they do, he'll freeze them out. Madden is a bloke that hates the Penguins and will write about them from that perspective. He spreads his ideas as rumors of something the team is trying to do to stir up drama to get wankers to click his links and drive traffic to his website.Likely only Pens fans know who he is.
With a 4 year contract on a declining player, i don’t see an opportunity to ever sell high. He will be a buyout.I don't believe Letang is looking to leave Pittsburgh. Hard to imagine Montreal would be that interested either. They have an envious amount of young D prospects they need to eventually make room for and they already have solid veterans to put with them.
I mean I guess if they got Letang cheap and sold high on Matheson they could come out ahead. Otherwise what's the point.
yep welcome to HF, happens to every team with the speculation/rumours, don’t see that changing anytime soon. And some (or one) of us is continuing the nonsensical dialogue and ass showing. Not to mention several of us tried to debunk it early. It’s on the internet, though, so it must be true.
If he wants to play close to home, he can finish out his contract with Pitts (or get bought out) and then play a year or 2 in Laval!I understand the obvious connection to Montreal, but if he is just trying to play close to home, wouldn't Ottawa make a lot more sense? They need a RHD upgrade IMO and want to compete

Worked for Ryan Smyth too.Worked for Duncan Keith
If we're basically talking about one of these guys straight up for Letang from a pure value standpoint they probably bite, but you're ignoring how little sense he makes for where Montreal is in their rebuild. The fact that they didn't go out and acquire another top six player shows that they're pretty content to finish around the same place they did last season and continue to build toward 2-3 years from now, there is nothing for Letang to lead to contention while he's still a player who can have an impact on that.I mean, I wouldn't be shocked to see Letang do something similar to what Keith did in Edmonton. Come to Montreal for two years. Try to get the youth into their first playoff series and then ultimately retire due to the vast amount of injuries he's suffered in his career.
I don't believe a trade between Montreal and PIT is likely for Letang. Madden is a shit stirrer who is connected, but he is rarely breaking news.
I just think it's hilarious how many Habs fans are immediately jumping on it saying "THERE IS NO CHANCE THIS HAPPENS".
Hughes would jump at bringing in a player of Letang's caliber for nothing to lead his youth group back into contention. Hits all the narratives especially since the Habs could probably dump cap back on PIT in the form of Anderson or Gallagher.
Burns is a good comparable, Sharks retained 1/3 of his contract and only got a 3rd rounder and that’s going to a team that needed him and were competing. If this is a charity case to get Letang home, like Hughes did with Petry, expect to retain/take a cap dump like Gallagher and maybe get a 3rd rounder or surplus D like Harris.I'd put my money on Letang being as effective as Brent Burns has been throughout his late 30s.

Letang would have more value to many other clubs
If Letang really wants out I'd do something around Anderson, Harris and a pick for Letang. I still think he can definitely help a team that's almost turning the corner like the Habs.If we're basically talking about one of these guys straight up for Letang from a pure value standpoint they probably bite, but you're ignoring how little sense he makes for where Montreal is in their rebuild. It's not diminishing the player Letang is now to say that having a 39 and 40 year old Letang at $6.1 million outweighs any benefit he could have on a rebuilding team for the next two years. If he didn't have that fourth year, I certainly would love a deal around Anderson+ or Gallagher+ but they're not going to shackle themselves to a timebomb just because he's French and would be their best D-man for one season
If Letang made that request, I venture it's the color of the jersey which matters the most, not proximity to home.I understand the obvious connection to Montreal, but if he is just trying to play close to home, wouldn't Ottawa make a lot more sense? They need a RHD upgrade IMO and want to compete
Our GM has been known to play 4-D chess unlike our last GM who struggled at checkers, if there’s a way for it to make sense to the Habs he would do it. Letang in would mean Savard and likely Matheson out, neither of the 3 will be part of a contending team so doesn’t hurt my feelings. If we can pick up assets in the process from moving Matheson and Savard and not really road block our young D then I’m not against it.Yeah, I am under no impression that Letang’s return would be good.
I just think Habs fans are being obtuse about their analysis of Letang and what he could provide to them.
I'll believe when the hitchhiker he picks up confirms it eh.....that being said I wonder what the Habs would give in return?I will believe it when someone legit says it.

Why on earth would the Habs give much if anything for a player who is pushing himself on our team?I'll believe when the hitchhiker he picks up confirms it eh.....that being said I wonder what the Habs would give in return?
Not even f.... maybe. About worst trade ideas in history of this board. Not only are Canadiens already overloaded on defense. Letang is a declining asset signed until he is 41. That contract cannot be bought out. It will kill us when we good team. The difference between adding another star or not. Canadiens have had our share of terrible long term contracts. Nothing stop a Cup faster. He's 37 BTW.
Letang is in no way a liability, and based on the way he trains, I doubt he will be become one anytime soon. His last year of his contract may the only one that can be the issue.
We have no reason to trade him, unless we're truly blowing it up, which at that point, anybody worth a dime should be traded. I'm fine watching him retire a Penguin.
That being said, there is no reason for the Habs to want him EXCEPT of the whole Quebec thing (I'm originally from Montreal).
