Hated trading Buch, that kid was a grinder, wasn’t a good player out of the gate, got moved around, never complained, just tried to get better. Rangers were patient with his development, Buch kept grinding, and he turned into a gem. Same with Zucc.

I hate reading about a players character or work ethic before they actually step into the league. What got you here, won’t keep you here, you best step up and grind, get better, because you don’t get the red carpet rolled out for you just because you get drafted in the 1st.

Hope this kid learns from this, and gets some good advice, shame to waste opportunities.

It’s Russia, if you have money and power does it really matter? It’s connections and back room political deals.

In saying all that, I wonder if Panarin’s clashes with Putin put he and Kravtsov on opposite ends of their political spectrum.
Not sure if you’re just saying this because he’s a hockey player so he’d be wealthy or if you know about his family but he does indeed come from a very wealthy family with ties. His father is actually not allowed to enter the US because of who he is.

On the political thing I think we in the west sensationalizes Russia, it’s no more divisive than we are here. Panarin is friends with many Russian players who he disagrees with on Russian politics. Also considering Vitali’s sister moved to Canada for her career I don’t think he was exactly married to the idea of staying in Russia as many fans suggested. Look how good his English is compared to other Russian players, he also came very early in the summers and spent time in Colorado and such, while most European players would still be in Europe. People seem to be forgetting about a lot of things that led to this situation today. I’ve seen no mention of the fact his sister was getting married and Vitali skipped her wedding & hopped on a plane the moment he was told he’d even have a chance to play in the bubble. He has been dicked around by this organization and there is certainly blame on both parties.

He was plenty good enough to make this team, Drury was trying to prove a point, the only thing he proved is that he knows how to give opposing GM's the upper hand in trade negotiations.

Kind of tough when you get injured and miss half the preseason, no?

The rules are different for high first round picks. Otherwise Lafreniere's ass would be in the AHL right now too, he did not impress this preseason at all
Lafreneire had similar production in the NHL D+1 to Kravtsov in the AHL D+2 and the KHL D+3.

The rules are different because they're not on the same planet.

So insane this kid won’t report to Hartford. Buch, Shesty, Chytil, Zucc, Kreider, McDonagh, Callahan, Dubinsky… better players than him have done it. Hell, Buch went down, performed like a maniac for half a dozen games and never went back. Yeah if it were me, I would have kept him up and sacrificed Hajek without thinking twice, but the fact is Kravstov has not been nearly good enough to be this offended about a stint in the AHL.

So was Z.Jones, but he took the news much better than Kravtsov.

Not defending Drury here, there’s was a good chance, based on past history, that an AHL demotion would cause a spark that could blow, and it did. But the question would then be, why was he not moved sooner? Which is fair to ask, because Kravtsov is not built for this league if he reacts this way. He’s going to face tougher adversity in the future, guess he’ll learn the hard way.

By no means was I taking a shot at VK here, just pointing out that many very wealthy Russians did not get where they are because they were the best in their field, oftentimes they were appointed or magically inherited existing lucrative positions with the understanding that unwavering loyalty is required.

I know Russia has changed, supposedly, but I have to imagine that part of the reason there isn’t more dissension is because it’s quietly, or not so quietly, discouraged through various means.

That’s not to say Panarin and VK couldn’t be best friends, just that it was a point I hadn’t thought about in the past. Also, most of Panarin’s friends around the league oftentimes don’t have similar parental political deep roots.

This is how I feel.
