It's worth noting that despite the rest of the roster looking like complete ass last night, Necas had himself a good game. A goal and an assist that was basically a goal in itself to how wide open he found Robinson with that pass.

The kid is a steady performer this year who is singlehandedly keeping us in games that we have no business being competitive within. As much as I don't like mixing up the lines, it's hard to ignore that he is our best player this year and deserves top line minutes. Maybe he can drag Aho out of his funk.

All fans hate Goaltender Interference calls...I think we all recognize how subjective the rulings are, and dislike that we don't seem to be able to apply a modicum of logic into it. I think it would be helpful if they changed the wording so that it only applied to contact within the blue paint. At this point, I'm confused why there is a blue-colored area of the ice in front of the goal...what bearing does it have?

A skater has to know where he's not allowed to skate freely and currently there's no demarcation of that boundary. Even if it means the crease needs to be bigger, there needs to be a recognized no-touch zone that no one can dispute. You could see Robinson mouth the words "I was never in the blue", meaning even he understood his responsibility to be what happens within the crease, and not beyond.

I'm watching the gif over and over Daccord doesn't move a ton whereas Robinson backs in and makes a rather large horizontal move that sweeps across and clips Daccord. I think he has more to do with the contact for sure but that's just how I see it.

Daccord, mostly top middle of the crease before and during contact, Robinson a little over the halfway point across the crease and ends up moving the whole rest of the way across as he slides by and the contact happens. I think at best you can say they both had a part but Robinson caused more.

This also leaves out how much does Montour help push Robinson further towards the crease then he would have gone on his own. A judgement call on top of what is already basically a judgement call but oh well.

Ghost seems to have really forgotten how to clear a puck as well it seems. So many weak or wiffed clears. Needs to be a hell of a lot stronger on his stick with those.

I can't get over what I saw from Slavin last night. It's very unlike him.

The 3rd goal against, he's almost always going to stop that pass in front, or disrupt the shooter to prevent receiving it cleanly. On the 4th, how many times have we seen him prevent a breakaway by swinging his stick around the player to knock the puck away? He was just beat cleanly on both goals.

I wonder what's going on with him. We've not heard about any injuries (that I can recall). Does he have a new kid?

To me it felt like there were 2 or 3 50/50s on that GI. Was he pushed in? Did the goalie have time to reset? Was the goalie out of the blue? We lost all of them.

Totally agreed dude. But he’s the best we have right now for that 2nd line role. I’m an ideal world he would be perfect playing Staals role and 3rd line minutes. But won’t matter cause Rod doesn’t trust him and let him learn or work through bad games. Ideal world in future after Staal is done is:

KK line 3
Drury line 4

But Rod has a man crush on Staal and Drury so he will play them over slotted.

IMO, Staal isn't over-slotted. He's a perfectly fine 3C. The problem is we don't have a good 2C since Trochek left. I'm not against playing KK there instead of Drury, I just don't think either of them are good enough in that role so I'm kind of ambivalent to which one plays there.

Secondly, I don't agree that in an "ideal world KK would be perfect playing Staal's role". KK isn't anywhere near Staal in terms of defensive ability. Staal has been one of the best shut down centers in the NHL for years, and was better in that role as a 19 year old than KK or Drury is today. KK has never faced tough competition like Staal has either.

Could he become good enough to play that role? Maybe, but he hasn't demonstrated that yet. If Staal was gone and KK was our 3C, then I suspect that 3rd line won't be the same sort of "shut down" line that it is today, but it may provide more offense.

Can’t blame Rod for treating the two as interchangeable. That’s what the results show. Per NST, since 22-23, 54.29 GF% for Drury + Necas and 53.77 for Kotkaniemi + Necas. While the latter pair has scored more, they’ve given up more.

Kotkaniemi has a lot of growing to do to be a replacement for Staal. I’d pump the breaks on that justification for his future value to the club.

Didn’t the line with KK and Necas win more, too? Isn’t that the most important stat? It seems like the decline started with the tinkering.

I am no big KK advocate but feel like the coach’s overreactive antics cause some of these dips at times. It doesn’t convey confidence. It looks like it would be anxiety inducing.

I think he has a big life outside of hockey with his family, charities and ministry work. Last week, there was a beautifully written story in Golf Digest about Grayson Murray. The player from Raleigh who took his own life. Slavin was mentioned in it as someone who tried to help him through his issues with support care.

I mean, we've lost 5 of our last 7, and with the Avs up next, could be 6 of our last 8. That's a bit concerning, IMO.

We do have (what's supposed to be) an easier stretch after the Avs, but considering our performance last night against Seattle, those games suddenly become question marks rather than favorites
