Personally I think we're entitled to some kind of monetary compensation. Usually when players transfer leagues in soccer or basketball, the receiving teams provides some kind of buyout money. Not that it really makes a difference to us fans because it has no effect on the on-ice product, but just the principle.

Isnt there a transfer agreement between the khl and the nhl? Isn't compensation 300k?

Who cares essentially?

The Olympics are ruined

Can't root for USA. Parise
Can't root for USSR. Kovalchuk
Can't root for Sweeden. Lundqvist
Can't root for Canada. Crosby

So Latvia it is I guess?

The thing is.. we didn't do anything that is covered by the transfer agreement. We voided his contract and he decided to go play in the KHL.

I remember having mixed emotions when Parise tied it up in 2010.

Would be cool to see both Devils goalies make their team, even as the third goalie.

We just had Burmi defect to the KHL. Not the end of the world. It's going to happen.

I am more concerned about how many more Russian NHLers are going to go this route. Unfortunately if this becomes an increasing trend, there may be fewer Russians drafted into the NHL in the first place in the years ahead.

yes

he should have left during UFA if he missed home so much instead of breaking a contract

The owners broke their contract with Kovy twice since he been in the NHL. Lost a peak year and entire years pay, then had a 24% pay decrease, lost half the year when he justed started to get his pay day, and then had escrow increase with no gurantee of getting the money back.

The more I think about it I don't blame Kovy from quitting and going to the KHL.

We had a HOF caliber winger getting paid 6 million, 6 million, and 11 million (locked out half the season) for his age 27 - 29 seasons.

the CBA ran out both times so technically the owners didnt break a contract with him.

Please - how about these special buyouts? They are only getting 66% of their contractual salary over double the length.

Best thing about an improving KHL is the threat against lockouts by the greedy owners.

the CBA ran out lol, that's like saying the union broke his contract. Sounds ridiculous because that is ridiculous.

buyouts are a breach of contract? They pay the player to not play, even if you claim a marginal amount of the promised contract, it still pays. Where do we get the team get compensation for the player to break the contract? The answer is nowhere, until they make the new team pay with compensation, or force the player to play with a gun - which isn't possible so the former will suffice.

I don't think that is how a buyout works. The player gets their money instantly and the caphit is spread out over time. So I think you're making things up.

All valid reasons. Except he waived the right to pursue those reasons when he signed a 15 year contract. All things he should have considered 3 years ago when UFA and acted appropriately whether that mean going to the KHL then or signing a shorter term contract. There's no excuses for getting yourself into a commitment you later regret.

This all the way, with out a doubt i don't care who is on our team, its my country and nothing will change that..

unless Miller is the goalie, i will find a new country.

Miller is right now one of the most overrated goalies in the world (He's good but enough of this ''Top 5'' crap already)

It will be Quick starting. Miller might be backup, but I doubt starter very much. Speaking of that situation, I don't get all the ''Canada will trade Stamkos to the USA for Miller'' talk. If worst comes to worse they have Luongo still. Luongo is as good or better than Miller. Why can't he start for Canada? He won the gold with them.

I bet the US goalies will be Quick and Schneider, Miller hasn't exactly shown much since Vancouver. Marty's not going to be selected to Canada with Crawford and Luongo both ahead of him.

Devils on Olympic teams (my prediction):

Elias (Czech Republic-C)
Schneider (USA)
Zidlicky (Czech Republic)
Larsson (Sweden)
Zubrus (Lithuania-C)
Greene (USA)
Loktionov (Russia)
