If if werent about money, and Kovalchuk was so desperate and desirous to return to Russia, SKA wouldnt have to pay Kovalchuk EVEN MORE money to play in the KHL than he makes in the NHL, especially when you consider the obvious tax implications.

Nobody knows how much he is getting in his 4 year deal. People assume it is ~$15 million and I saw reports it was ~$ 10 million. It should be noted that the Ruble has been falling the past 3 years (~15%). Note: I would bet a lot he makes out a lot more financially.
