Kovalchuk would certainly be a good fit for the Isles. The team desperately needs a scorer and he could do some damage if paired with Barzal.

In terms of salary and contract, taking back Ladd's contract might be a necessity for LA though.

They're better off keeping Kovalchuk than taking Ladd. Kovalchuk hasn't said(at least publicly) that he wants out. The Islanders would have to pay for the 21-22 and 22-23 seasons on Ladd's deal if he was involved. That would be the Kings doing the Islanders a favor. Unless Lou somehow did some Jedi mind trick.

I’d probably do Lucic for Kovy

Lol that is not happening. Kovy can still score, and has 26 points in 44 games on a horrible Kings team that has one of the worst offense in the league. Not to mention the fact that Willie D. played him as low as 6 minutes on some nights. Kovy is also putting up those points on the third line.

I personally wouldn't trade him unless there was very good value coming back. Kovy is a consummate professional and is a good role model for the young kids coming into our system.

Kovalchuk has been playing surprisingly hard throughout a very tough season. Our coach hates him, the team stinks, but his motor and effort has been pretty consistent. Far more than I was expecting. The offense is still there too, he just doesn't mesh with our top centers (Kopitar plays the cycle game, Carter isn't a playmaker). Obviously the contract isn't great but he can definitely still bring it and would help a playoff team.

Kovy (25% Retained) + Toffoli for Poehling/Suzuki?

What? No from Montreal. The only way Montreal takes on Kovy is if in the deal Alzner goes the other way.

And Montreal doesn't need Kovy AND Toffoli, they have quite a bit of young depth already and have kids coming up.

And Montreal isn't trading their big futures for Kovy.

Make it Suzuki plus a 2nd rounder and I would do that deal. We need young forwards and picks, so this fits within our rebuild game plan. Both Kovy and Toffoli are also heating up, so they will be good adds for the Habs run.

I wonder if the Blues are interested? They seem to have some level of interest in him every other time he has been available.

I smell a Habs deal.

Something around Suzuki/Poehling for Kovalchuk (50% Retained) + ?

That's insane, those are blue chip prospects. One of them will be moved if a Fowler trade takes shape but can't see any other real scenario.

I'd go Hudon + Alzner + 2nd + 3rd for Kovy full price

I am not as knowledgeable on MTL, but wouldnt Toffoli + Kovy be better than Peca and Armia? Especially if Kovy is retained.

Drouin - Danault - Gallagher
Tatar - Domi - Toffoli
Lehkonen - Kotka - Kovy
Hudon - Peca - Armia
