Hopefully Hughes will still be able to do a real hockey trade with our good young dmans instead of adding more picks.

A 4th in 2026, couldn't make it a 2025 pick? Major L for HuGo.

How is getting a 2026 4th round pick for a fringe NHLer a major L and you insinuate that a 2025 would be better when we already have a ton of 2025 picks?????? This is just a hyperbolic response that is without merit.

It is not even possible to take a "major L" when trading Kovacevic who we would have lost on waivers anyways .

Don’t understand this. I complained yesterday that we should have traded for Holtz, who was had for nothing. So couldn’t we have simply traded Kovacevic for him? Would rather a young forward with upside who needs a change of scenery than another draft pick
I would've totally done Kova for Holtz too but I guess NJD really cared about Cotter and valued him higher

Anything's possible...

But D's need time, there's no leapfrogging unless completely necessary. This is the year for them to cement. There's no need to Rush Reinbacher and Maiilous after trying to develop Harris and Barron this far.

There is no rushing, if Reinbacher or whoever is ready to go then he's ready to go, that's how internal competition works. The rest is sunk cost fallacy.

So without any other moves, the defense is looking like

Guhle-Savard
Matheson-Harris
Struble-Xhekaj
Barron

I thought we might have traded Harris at the draft to sign Roy/Carrier if Hughes really wanted to improve the team.
Guhle-Savard
Matheson - Mailloux
Hutson - Xhekaj
Barron (Struble or Harris) tbd traded for assets/picks

Reinbacher comes in at TDL for Savard.

Even if they're ready to go, they'll still be ready 6 months from now, it's called asset management. D's need time, having Reinbacher or whoever start in the AHL will not hurt them even if ready.

They're not going to throw away serviceable players for nothing. Barron still has upside as well, they need to give him as much runway as possible.

Barron is going to get every chance to succeed this season. Him figuring it out would be fantastic for this team. Especially being a RD.

Plus Reinbacher and Engstrom on the way as well.

We should move either Harris or Barron with a forward or pick for a top 6 winger.

No one said anything about throwing anyone away for nothing. They just won't stick around if they fall behind other prospects on the depth chart. That is assets management.
