Kopitar's next contract?

I think there were several people who raised the question on why Kopi or DD would give a HT discount now, when they didn't give one back when they'd signed their current contracts, and my response would be that, back then, LA Kings being SC Champs or a "winning culture" was merely Lombardi's vision, and nothing more. Now, I think with 2 cups in 3 years, and having the current roster and depth that we have, I think Kopi, Doughty and other players see and understand how they could directly contiribute to the winning culture by taking a little less, and saving it for Lombardi, so he can keep our winning culture going.

well he could have tried to be resigned as soon as he was aquired imo that makes it use able. Yes he didn't have a lot of time but still waited till after the playoffs.

Why would he? Nobody knew how things were gonna work. Also, RFA's aren't fair comps as they can't be lost without at the very least an opportunity to match, so they could afford to wait until well into camp, as they did with Dewey.

I never said he would just that they could have. All i m saying is there is history of Dean waiting to resign players.

If you're the GM would you give a 7 year deal to a guy whose been in the locker room for a day or two? By the time he resigned Gaborik it was less than 100 days after he acquired him. NOTHING Dean has done with LA is comparible.

I don't think the issue is people don't think Kopi won't give a hometown discount for the reasons you said and more, the issue is how much of a discount. Some people are calling for 25-30% discounts possibly, that's a lot.

That's as far as we know, officially, but weren't there a bunch of rumors that they already had agreed to a new deal with Gaborik during the playoffs? Numerous sources were saying it was a done deal they were just waiting to announce it. But who knows.

That's what I'm thinking. They basically have the option of getting paid very well (relatively speaking) and risk being on a worse team, or being paid well and knowing they're on a perennial playoff team with perhaps even the possibility of becoming a dynasty. I would be amazed if Kopitar resigns for anything under $9 million and pleasantly surprised if it's anywhere around $9.5. Expecting anything like a 25% discount isn't going to happen. But 10%? That's within the realm of possibility.

Kopitar And Gaborik Will Score 100 goals...next Season

Said it since the Kings acquired Gaborik - Kopitar will be a 90 point player with him on his wing.

I said it before and I'll say it again Kopitar and Gaborik will score 100 goals next season. Would be great to have Carter next to them to form our Superstar line!!! Or maybe Williams or Toffoli! It would be fun to watch!!!

No i wouldn't have given him a 7 year offer I would have made a 4-5 million a year 1-2 year offer however :) The potential of him fitting in would have been a risk but i would have done that. My point was and is still he does wait to resign players that is all i'm trying to say.

Well that is sorta what i'm trying to say the kings will or could do the same thing with Kopitar s resigning Its a nice announcement at the cup parade :p :sarcasm:

So 50 each? lol I can see Kopi with 30-35 and Gaborik with around the same. Kopi should have a lot more assists though with Gaborik for a full season, maybe 55-60.

Let's not get crazy. I see Kopitar scoring in the range of 30-35 goals along with Gaborik.

Whoa....whoa....whooooa. Let's slow down now. It'll be tough for the entire 1st line to score 100 goals, let alone 2/3rds of the 1st line.

I think shopping at Costco has altered your perception of everyday life.
Kopitar and Gaborik can't get 75% more goals by buying wholesale

And I agree with you. What I'm saying is that using Gaborik to prove your point is flawed and incorrect.

i disagree because he is in his prime and the person i was useing him in a example ask who has dean waited to sign in there prime. Gaborik does qualify Agree to disagree

And all examples you gave were players who had been Kings all season or for their carrers, not acquired at the trade deadline. Gaborik is also the only player DL has ever acquired as a rental that he has resigned to a contract while LA's GM. Gaborik is in no way even remotely comparible to those other players you cited other than the date they signed their contract.

well he wanted to have examples of players that were resigned in the new cap era which was hard to do because there hasn't been that many but gaborik fit imo because he is in his prime and resigned cheaper then what he did if he went full ufa. I totally disgree regher was a rental and resign also penner was a rental and resigned. I also acknowledge the fact that he had less days but i feel he would qualify as cheaper then he would have got as a ufa and waited till after the playoffs to be signed :)

Regehr I'll give you, I forgot about him. Penner was acquired with another year left on his contract so he wasn't a rental, he was with LA for about 18 months before they won the cup.

I tend to agree, I have just spitballed ideas comparing structure of the Toews deal to where it is at the age that Kopi will be when his deal starts.

However, who else was getting $6.8M (or thereabouts) coming off an ELC in 09-10?

That's almost a given, they can't negotiate his new deal for 4 more years, if PK Subban gets over $9M before this season starts, inflation alone may get him close to $11M in 2018.

Kane and Toews signed 6.3M deals coming off ELC's (Signed midway thru 2010 ,, Kicked in in summer)

True. But even then, the difference is term, Kane & Toews got 5/$31.5M, Stastny got 5/$33M and Getzlaf got 5/$26.625M. 7/$47.6M is a big difference, although those players have obviously made up most of the difference for those 2 years (more than the difference in the case of Kane & Toews), but the point is, at the time the deal is signed you don't know that that's ever gonna come.
