If any player on this roster can play until 40, its Kopitar. His game is built for longevity.

Doughty and Kopitar will be here for a long, long time.

Yeah i think Browns gone and Lucic has to stay . He brings competitiveness and leadership to the room that Lombardi values highly. The team loves him and hes brought lot to the team besides producing hinself . More goals have been scored this year because he is screening the goalie . Lucic is to valuable . Get rid of Brown asap

Still takes me back a bit to the Mayor's cryptic comments about Kopitar being captain someday.

I expect Brown here all year, but after that...

Nobody is going to take Brown.

Exactly, or Gaborik for that manner. Not without Dean including some assets in a trade to provide an incentive to the team acquiring either player.

Dean is going to have to do something though, because the cap isn't going up much if at all next season. So that means no Lucic, and maybe no Lewis.

The Hextall hookup: DL trades Brown to Hextall for future considerations. Hextall trades Brown back to DL with cap hit retained (what we helped out with on Vinny?) for something of value. Lucic fits, and Brown stays (which we all know DL wants). Everybody wins!

You forgot the part where Bettman calls up DL for Cap circumvention and takes away a bunch of draft picks.

I think Kings will consider either buying out Brown or trading him and either taking salary back, splitting some salary or adding an asset to sweeten the deal.

Got no problem with this. Just interested to see how the money is structured.

Kopitar is a cornerstone and you pay those types of guys because they are rare.

The Kings have cornerstone pieces down the middle, defense and goaltender. They are all in their prime so you go for it and cash in while you can.

Ridiculous. Get rid of the 2 time Cup winning captain during a season when the team is rolling and there are no immediate cap issues. Brilliant strategy.

This off-season. It is perfect time to do so. At 5.75 million how much can you really provide in the locker to stay when your averaging 20 points a year and taking up to much cap space for the team to stay competitive. He is replaceable on the score sheet and with him gone Lucic and Schenn can stay and we can also afford a 3rd line center

Do we have any draft picks left?

With our cupboard being so bare, we're going to be needing to wheel Kopi, Carter and Doughty on to the ice in wheelchairs someday and yell, "Get out there and play, old men! If Jagr can still play, you can darn well still play!"

did toews and kane give hawks a discount?...does not happen, players need to maximize their earnings.

...and people wonder why there will be another lockout.

It's definitely the players' right to get what they can. Now the owners will go back and limit their earnings yet again.

Okay, how? I guarantee you that you will not like what the Kings have to give up to make this happen. Then you need to replace an overpaid, but still very useful hockey player in Dustin Brown.

If there was an easy solution for Brown, Dean would have also signed Kopitar to a 6 million deal. He's not a miracle worker.

I remember someone saying (maybe McKenzie, Friedman?) that DL seems content to go nuts this year then figure out all the contracts/salary this offseason. Makes sense now. If he worries about the future at this point, it may hurt this season, which is our best shot of all the seasons we've had.

Pull the trigger on that Big Buff trade and we're all set to be a wrecking ball and see the Caps in the finals ;)

Problem for Dean is that he has handed out too many long term deals. Sometimes you just gotta cut a man loose. He should have started with Richards, but Dean got too sentimental.

Brown deserved to get paid IMO. He took a hometown discount for years, and then when he signed his deal he was coming off a lockout shortened season where he was on a pace for 30 goals. However, the term was and is ridiculous. If he wouldn't sign the shorter term deal, then you have to part ways. Better a year too early, than a year too late. Now for the Kings, parting ways with Brown at his current AAV, may be several years too late.

This is why the owners will step in and eliminate 8 year contracts in the next CBA. The point behind the 8-year deal is to lock up guys like Toffoli and Doughty on their second contracts, not hand out retirement deals to players approaching 30 years of age. GMs have mismanaged the long term contract tool.

If this was the NFL, Dustin Brown would have been cut after last season.
