Of course - except you're assuming there will be a compliance buyout of Kopitar. I'm not.

Did I say Kopitar? I said contracts LIKE THESE. I put the odds of Kopitar being moved before his NMC kicks in at greater than 50/50 though.

The full NMC clause kicks in right away. It's been reported as such.
And then a limited NTC in the final 4 years.
So I would put the odds of him being moved for at least 4 years at 0%.

Not according to this. And as has been pointed out that was a change in the new CBA that is allowed. Provided the player could have had one from July 1st and Kopi could have.

I haven't seen this in the CBA. Current contract renegotiation has always been prohibited (which is what this would amount to). All "extensions" are in reality new contracts.

I'll check into CBA to see if I can find that change.

It's in Article 11.8(b), page 48.
(b) A no-Trade clause or a no-move clause that is negotiated as part of an extension
of an SPC entered into pursuant to Section 50.5(f) may become effective immediately upon
registration of, but prior to the effective date of, such SPC extension, provided: (i) the Player
would otherwise have been eligible as of the immediately preceding July 1 prior to signing the
SPC extension to have a no-Trade or no-move clause pursuant to Section 11.8; and (ii) the Club
and the Player, who are parties to such SPC extension, agree that the no-Trade or no-move clause
is effective immediately upon execution of the SPC extension (or at some later date agreed to by
the Club and the Player) and evidence such agreement in writing in the SPC.

Funny how folks will attack in a mob mentality if someone else's has a legit difference in opinion on this contract and its impactions on this teams ability to keep a solid team together.Kopi has handcuffed this team so he could get max pay while hurting the rest of the team being able to retain the roster.Thats a huge deal.So great,we have Kopi signed for 8 more years while having to dump a few others to make it work fabulous thinking. Thanks King17 for actually thinking this thru.

Do you think people don't get the implications of the contract?

Kopitar doesn't owe it to anyone to take less money. Not the franchise, not his teammates, and not the fans. What is your alternative to signing Kopitar? Name the player that would replace him on the roster.

And also, no, Kopitar is not a generational player. Maybe in Slovenia, but not in the hockey world at large. He's a franchise player. But none of those subjective labels have anything to do with how much he gets paid to play hockey. That's all about availability and timing. It's not even talent necessarily.

So what I'm seeing is good actual post drops down to 8 million by the time his no movement clause expires. If the kings go into rebuild mode at that time he can definitely be moved even if he loses a step.

Yeah sorry, I meant after not before. 50/50 chance he is moved after his NMC expires. Thanks for the correction. :)

the Jeff Carter rule.

It's always good to see changes made because you got screwed. Had to happen to some other guys as well.

Great contract. If the Kings are rebuilding in 4 years they can retain 50% and ship him off to greener pastures.

Hey Greene should start a Greener Pastures retreat when he retires.

the Jeff Carter rule.

Not really. Jeff Carter wouldn't have met the eligibility requirements to get a retroactive NMC if the rule had been in place when he signed his extension back in 2010.

I seem to remember there was a player that the new rule would have helped had it been in place in the prior 2005 CBA, though I don't recall who it was at the moment.
