I know this isn't directly Rangers related, but if 2 USHL teams join in the same year would that push a team like Guelph to the Eastern Conference?

I doubt the Storm move to the east. They are only 20 -25 minutes away or so. The league schedule is set up to cut down on travel as much as possible.

I guess the league could keep 12 teams in the west and 10 in the East, especially if they know they will at 2 more teams soonish. Guelph would have nearby teams like Brampton, Brantford, Niagara and to a lesser extent Barrie.

I really have no idea what the league would do with the addition of a couple of new teams Matt. It will be interesting for sure. Some changes in divisions will happen for sure.

The Q does this with an unbalanced conference split (8 vs 10). Not ideal, but certainly an option. Or a three or four conference model could be considered.

There could be a case made to have Erie in the East as well. Niagara is right there...
I don’t think you can have teams in the same conference from three of the four outer or far reaching corners of the league.

Ottawa / Kingston
Sudbury / North Bay
Soo / Muskegon
Erie / Youngstown

Sending Erie east (Youngstown would have to go with them), would give them teams in three corners.

With likely only 6 healthy defensemen heading into next week (Campbell injured; Chromiak at WJC camp), wonder if McKenzie pushes things along a bit and gets Xu signed as an AP to give the team the extra body

They have 2 dmen not dressed for most games in Schneider and McNiel. But yes, signing Xu would be great!
A Xu signing would likely step up the thinning out process on the backend.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if Xu signs a AP contract. His 10 games wouldn’t count till Chromiak gets back

I don’t think so cause we have Schneider and NacNeil. As this isn’t an emergency call up I can’t see it not counting. If Schneider is put in Jr. B then I can see that being an option and a choice between Schneider and Xu could be used while Chromiak is gone. I’m not 100% sure on this but I can’t see healthy active ohl players being sat and you can call up a B card and it not count.

So I did the math, and taking out the 1st 2 games of the year when the team had the flu bug and played like a$$ as a result, Jackson Parsons is a 1.75 GAA and a 0.938 SV%. That is beyond phenomenal.

Disclaimer. Those 2 games are against 2 top teams (ER, WSR) so expect those numbers to be inflated slightly even under normal conditions. Still, pretty historic numbers over the last couple decades I would think.

I was looking at goalie stats from around the past 20ish years and he can be among the top if he continues to play like this. Could go down as the best season by a ranger goalie in a long time or maybe ever. Lots of season left to go but he's been outstanding so far.

Just wondering if we are concerned about burning Parsons out and he’s not as sharp for the stretch run and playoffs. I think we need to get the young lad Schaubel some more games in the second half. I know we want to finish no lower than third to potentially avoid our nemesis down the road to potentially the third round, so there’s definitely a balance to be done.

Hard to say. This still feels like a showcase to the league to get a nice trade. But also, you would have to drag Parsons out of that net. He is playing his best hockey in his OA year. I don't think playing more will make him less sharp.

For me, if MM will NOT, under any circumstance, trade Parsons, then I give him every start he wants, but I don’t play him back to back. If he is to stay a Ranger for the rest of the season, plus for what we hope will be an extended playoff run, he needs to be healthy. I don’t take chances with a goalie who has had past injury history. There are only 7 back-to-back situations remaining this season so I see no need to tempt fate.

So IMO, that means the backup gets 7 more starts this year. Parsons starts the rest of the games.

I’d get Schaubel onto a JrB team in the second half to get him minutes. Actually, rotating he and Edwards to both back up Parsons and get starts at Komoka makes sense. Both would get good minutes at Komoka and we get Edwards a few starts here to see what we have in him.

And it might keep Schaubel from using an A card. I mean, we have to be careful with those should Valentini and/or Xu decide to jump to the a O.

If MM is entertaining moving Parsons, then play him every game from here to the deadline. Every game period. Need to showcase him.

Very good points here Even.

I am still leaning minor sell if you can get good value for a player or two (Ando, Swick or Misa), but I have to imagine that if MM wants to have his cake (trade players for capital for next year and beyond) and eat it too (long playoff run) then Parsons must stay on the team. Now I am not saying that with Parsons they will win it all and beat an incredibly strong London team or others, but with the way he is playing he most definitely can steal games or even a series.
