I agree with this in general, but I do think we still need some pics, for those ‘what if’ situations. What if, all of the players that land in our lap are on the small size, and we need to find some beef. What if these players don’t pan out as expected? And so on.
For that reason, let’s move some assets to have in our back pocket. We are not selling the farm, allow for some playoff experience, but cash in when teams are calling.
IMHO.
Even brought up some great points in his post. In saying this I don't think you can ever have enough draft picks in any situation. Everyone would be happy to see the Rangers with a stocked draft cupboard. It allows a GM to make an offer for the top players in the league if he goes for it or garner some high end skill in the draft. With the Knights seemingly dominating the league again it will give all opposing GMs pause for thought on the direction they could take making the deadline a buyers dream. One thing that comes into play is playoff revenue. Teams are in business to make money. This will factor in with teams looking for a round or two of play off revenue. It will be interesting to see if MM sticks to a plan or what direction he goes in come the deadline. Just a thought.

I think one issue may help us maintain our third place position/wish. For the teams that are chasing us, who is going to significantly trade away picks/players to load only to eventually lose to the juggernaut down the 401? My guess is nobody, so we have to significantly slide to lose third.
Wishful thinking or solid logic?

I haven't confirmed with any research but I suspect in most cases the top ranked teams tend to have the most high round draft picks balanced throughout their lineups. For me a high round pick is within the first 3 or 4 rounds
High draft picks will always be the way for sustained success, along with knowing when to buy and sell.

Stocked cupboard is a must. These defected players are going to take picks to get it done. If we have a solid top 7F mem cup year and need to complete the 8 and 9 spot….picks. If Schaubel at 18 isn’t ready to be starting goalie at 18 years old for mem
cup year….picks. If we need a depth D…picks. We need to complete the trade off. 3% chance we upset London in a series. IMO our chances aren’t that different getting to the semis if we trade away atleast Ando. Maybe we go down to 1% of beating London without Ando. I’ll take the 1% and 5 picks compared to the 3% and no picks. The 2007 / 2008 core is good. Complete the sell so when it’s time to go for it we can go all in.

I’d like nothing more than to trade Ando at the deadline for the return I cited early on. That is the Jorian Donovan return. But, since the start of the season, Ando’s numbers aren’t what they were last year. I’m not saying he’s worse or has taken a step back from his play last year, but it may be perceived that way on the trade market based on his plus minus.

Has that, and the emergence of Andrew Gibson up in the Soo, bumped Andonovski from being the consensus top defensive D made available at the deadline? I would say that might be so, especially after Gibson’s being named to the world junior roster. So if Gibson brings the Jorian Donovan return, Andonovski might bring less. How much less remains to be seen.

And, does MM have a price in mind for Andonovski and will he be willing to move off that price based on the above? I assume he has a price set for Andonovski and other graduating players. He could refuse to move off those prices, and stand pat as a result.

Being named to compete at the WJC camp is no small thing and if Gibson should make the team his value will be way above Ando imo . And like I've said many times we can't just give Ando away.

I don’t believe Gibson or Andonovski can be compared to Donovan. Donovan was great on both sides of the puck. Gibson and Ando are both defensive d men.

They won’t bring the same return imo but will still be very high

I’m not comparing Andonovski / Gibson to Donovan as far as type of player goes. I’m using the Donovan comparison as he was the top 19 year old rental D moved at the last deadline.

Consensus has one of Andonovski / Gibson as probably the top 19 year old rental D to be made available at this deadline.

Thats where I’m making my comparison. Today, Gibson looks to be that player and could bring comparable return if multiple teams are in on him.

Actually...that smell is the burning of cards as MM continues to mis- manage. Several are going down. He’s really in a bind now. Nobody wants to trade. We now officially have the smallest 4th line in the league. "BATTLE BUILT" my ass!
Several have also asked to be traded. Two have asked for a full release from the team. DigiRomano and Rangers08Lam can give us the locker room scoop?
