One elephant in the Ranger room everyone is ignoring is Reid. Whose to say the only Ranger 07 opposing GMs want to start with is Reid in a package for a high skilled vet. He and Lam are stand out rookies in this league and have established themselves as future stars already.
One rumour that has been hot is Beck to the Soo. Soo fans are adamant they will not give up 07 Brady Martin yet other fans point to the Owen Sound trade. The bar has been set with the Owen Sound/Petes trade. Pay to play. Just saying Romano might not be the only focus of opposing GMs if MM is in serious talks. Personally I am selfish and want to keep all the 07s going forward. See what comes to fruition.
One questionable trade (to me at least) for 2 depth players does not set the bar.

Questionable trade? I know it’s early, but can it be that the Attack viewed Addy as a Bujold or Rolofs type 1st rounder? Just a guy and moving him now gets them the most value than he would down the road.

They had him for half a year. Yes, he’s a 1st rounder but we’re not in the room. There are other possible reasons they may have chosen to move on from him.

Guess we wait and see. I expect the bar for the top players to go up depending how many contending teams are going for a serious run. Some may want a round or two to make a bit of money. No sure if Smith to Owen Sound was a so called "big fish" but it did cost them their number one pick. Can't go by my speculations. If I bought a field full of pumpkins they would cancel Halloween that year.

Good one about the pumpkins 🤣.

It's all speculation even for the GMs. Although they have the final say.

I would not trade any of the 07 rookie class under any circumstance this year. That includes 2 part trades.

These are all the teams I predict will go for it.
Sag
Soo
Ldn
Kit
Now OS is (surprised by that a bit, but they are built for this year, similarly to Kitchener last season)
And I’m not counting Guelph out. Guelph to me is the wildcard. They very easily could add Poitras and have Allen return from injury around the same time. That would give that team a huge boost.

This screams 2nd round exit to me.

The West is too stacked this year IMO.
I can’t advocate moving Reid at this deadline. He’s contributing now and even if we add a couple veteran D, he’ll still dress.

Romano, on the other hand, would be hard pressed to dress in the post season even if we add only one veteran forward.

So, assuming Owen Beck could fetch a team’s ‘07 or ‘06 1st rounder this year, one would have to assume that Rehkopf could net the same next year. That being the case, moving Romano this year, when you pretty much know his value can be replaced next year, seems logical considering our position in the standings this year and our thin draft pick cupboard.

Who are the teams next year who look to be top contenders? Who’d be willing to move their ‘08 1st rounder? Or perhaps their ‘07 1st rounder?

For example, let’s look at Missy. They’ll contend a little this year, but will be a top team next year. They have two stud goalies. The belief is they’ll have to move one after this year. How would a Rehkopf / Ivankovic deal look? It would certainly look pretty good for our future in net and it would ease the pain of moving a Romano this year.

Here we go!

Man I’m pumped to see the big nickle back out there whenever he gets back. I think he’s just doing individual work and not the full practice based on the jersey colour. He’s going to steamroll someone first game. Do they switch to the blues at home tomorrow?

I think it’s all but a guarantee Pobezal will be here in September/ very latest after Wjs. Played 18 seconds today and a minute 30 last game. Would put him in the best position for his draft year ( have his rights for 2 more years)

Why would he wait til then? You’d think he’d want to get over here now if the icetime isn’t there for him this year.

I’m assuming it would be a struggle to get out his contract/ switching country’s, adjusting to the NA game in the strongest stretch during the year. he was a wait and see pick like mesar
