Plus a lot of teams in the playoffs usually just roll 2 pairs of dmen.
Didn't PD roll 3 dmen for a cpl playoff series when a player (Bortuzzo?) was hurt?

That team had in age. That’s a vet d core. They lose a top 4 and vet Kelly or Dzielski steps up to top 4.

20 Pepe - 19 Weber
18 Bertuzzo - 19 Shurton
18 Kelly - 19 Dzielski

Perna, Barbieri as subs.

I get the calls for more D help, but I see a lot of progress in Reid and the team has a clear plan for him. Burying him on the bottom pair with limited ice is likely not going to happen. If it gets to the point where he's hurting the team in the playoffs, they'll do what they have to do. But he's already quite good and only getting better. I don't see him losing minutes any time soon.
If Reid (and partner) played well on the 3rd pairing they wouldn't be buried. They would likely get their share of minutes and take a lot of the burden away from the top two pairings. That's with a completely healthy lineup - knock on wood. And if Reid played well enough there's nothing stopping him from not staying on the 2nd pairing.

You can't have too much defensive depth for a run in the playoffs.

Reid's been progressing well this year. My guess is he takes some steps forward and by the start of the playoffs is in a better place to be taking on some key minutes.

I don’t think any steps are needed for more ice time. He gets plenty for a 16 year old. Kid is great but playoffs is a different beast. I’d like to see him 12 to 14 minutes in playoffs. I’m guessing he it will be more Iike 16 to 18. It will 100% help the 2027 run the experience he will get but might hurt this run.

IMO watching young Reid he is already better than some of the vet defensemen in the OHL. Kid has a lot of confidence. He will only get better in the second half of the season.
He will be a huge star for the Rangers down the road. I think if Jussi can get this group to tighten up defensively they will give any team a run for their money.

I don’t even know who wears the A’s. I’d imagine it’s between Ando, Sop and Rehkopf though.

Deadline now officially over as noted by the OHL.

Rangers look better than they did going into it. I personally wanted to see 1 import and 1 D come in. I got my wish! 2 D would have been ideal, but I guarantee you MM will go on record saying prices were to high. Mem cup year + the east being wide open will do that.

There's your team Jussi. Finnish strong and win it all!

GO RANGERS GO!

Prices were ridiculous. MM would be correct. He paid the piper to strengthen the Rangers. There will be some sad faces for sure on fans of teams that sold the farm for a run this year with the Mem Cup in the OHL. Always some surprises in the play offs. Rangers are a team that was suppose to rebuild. Lots of rookies. Ranger fans have had a better year than what they thought so far.

High prices is no excuse for not adding more, and or more quality. The thin asset base is the reason, period. If he didn’t deplete the asset base last year in a foolhardy attempt to compete, he’d have had lots of picks to play with and likely would have spent more freely.

This is different than refusing to pay high prices. He could not pay high prices.

So when asked, his answer should be:

-We refused to sell any of our 07’s period.
-We refused to move a ‘24 pick.
-Had we had more assets in the cupboard, we may have jumped in with both feet to improve this team to make it as good as it could be.
-With the assets we had, we feel we did the best we could to address our team’s needs for this playoff run while preserving the future.

It’s simple.

as mention on on a board earlier this week. Sale and Seattle viewed Kitchener as his only option.
“There was some contradiction as to what was going to happen next year with Eddy,” said Williamson. “They’d (Seattle) told us Kitchener was a place to finish out and then bring him to have a shot at pro. It’s one of those things we have relationships with agents, and you do the right thing”.

Fair enough. I do appreciate how MM navigated this deadline. Youth still in tact, and this year's draft not touched.

Degray in OS was the first to bust out that line this year. Even though he set the market with the addy trade

That’s a good sign going into next year. If he and Rehkopf light it up here going forward, you may see then returned together here next year.

Almost as good a benefit as Brantford had with the Senators’ heavy influence on the Hamara trade to the Bulldogs.

One final note on Sale. It appears he is still overseas as he was at his former team’s game last night.

Even it's easy to say "It's simple". This is why we are on these boards and not in an OHL franchise office making trades. If it was that simple a lot of HF Board posters would be putting in resumes with all the OHL teams. Not me I'm too old. If polled the majority of Ranger fans would skin MM alive if he traded the best rookies we've had in years. Rangers acquired a coach with one hell of a resume. Four or five players stepped right up to the top of the league. Don't know if someone dropped a horse shoe off at the Aud but it has been quite a surprise. Many on here were against selling off any of the 07s and also wanted to keep the 24 picks. I believe you were one of them at different times. Personally I like the trades MM came up with this deadline. Am sure if he had more assets he would of done more. You have your opinion and I respect this also. Anyway Rangers have their roster settled. Players are probably happy to get the stress of the trade crap over and done with. Time to move on to the second half of the season.
