This is certainly how I'd be selling the trade if I were Barrie, and there's no doubt that there are good players to be had in the fourth and fifth rounds. But seconds and young players are what really get deals done in this league and I'm surprised McKenzie was able to get Barrie to essentially take his inventory of second-tier assets (the exception being that SAG 2nd 2026).

Sale showed well at the WJC two years in a row, including as a double-underager. I believe he's the third-highest-drafted guy playing in the OHL right now (Barlow, Dvorsky) Yes his numbers weren't great for Barrie but Barrie is weak. I wouldn't be surprised to see him be a 1.5 PPG guy on the Rangers the rest of the way with the right linemates.

If indeed this is it I think it was a very, very good trade for the Rangers.

If he gets put with Razor and Mesar 1.5 would be a minimum. Swick is over a PPG with those 2. I wouldn’t put him there but he will have good linemates no matter where he plays on the top 3 lines.

If Sale gets put on third line, I'll buy some Compass food and actually eat it all

First off, it’s tough to move an import for value. Especially one that isn’t putting up the expected numbers. Then factor in he and his NHL team telling Barrie he’ll only report to Kitchener and the return is affected substantially.

Barrie had a choice. Keep him in a sell year and maybe watch him graduate getting nothing for him, or get what you can for him and cut your losses.

Getting the package they did was a win for Barrie.

If Sale comes as advertised, it may overcome another issue that some have on here, that being matching the physicalty of other teams. While not a physical player, he should really help already a great power play. Punch them on the score sheets not a "bop or two on the schnaze". (Paraphrasing Bobber there)

Correct me if I’m wrong but Rangers have another month or so to finalize roster. Here are the players they would love to add. I know all very, very small chances to happen. Fegaras is the first call. I’d love to find out his ice time at Cornell. His stats are low. 3rd round Dallas pick.

2nd round
D - Cole Longacre
NCAA - Merrimack
Current - Salmon Arm BCHL
9pts / 27 games

7th round
F - Kamil Bednarik

11th round
F - Christian Humphrey

5th round
F - Dylan McFadden
NCAA - Holy Cross
Current - Buffalo Jr

I’m kinda curious to see who replace Morey on the PK.
They’ve been running Sop/Swick Mercer/Pug and Morey. Maybe bottineau or stark?

Seem very genuine and motivated to be here. Excited to see what he can do. I Assume he flys in sometime this weekend and plays Friday against London.

Cameron Arquette had 2 assists in his return to leamington tonight.

Blair Scott had 1 assist. Both Scott and Morey were playing 3rd line/pairing

Rehkopf is also a Barrie native but if we move his rights next year I imagine it would be to a legit contender

It’s early to count out Barrie for next season. It has been a tough season for the Colts with injuries to Akey, Frasca, and an underwhelming effort by Sale.
Sale didn’t really fit there. A different team with a different style of game will probably be good for Sale.

Seems like Kitchener hit every aspect you’d want with the first 5 picks
Reid- we all seen what he’s done and will develop into
Romano- speed and smarts (evangelista like)
Lam- will put up a lot of points and highlight reals
Stark- two way centre that every team needs
Arquette- plays with heart and will be a solid top 9 guy
Macniel- a shutdown guy to pair with Reid
Now if they can find a pure shooter in this years draft it’s a great compliment of players
Is D- Kaden Schneider still in the mix?
He came to the rookie camp last spring and I thought looked ok.
Good size at 6’3”. 180.
No apparent NCAA commit.

I'm hoping Sale can flip the switch in Kitchener. I think everyone is counting on it.

Such a weird pick. I talked to someone that knows about the reasoning why he was even an OHL option but I forget what he said. Clearly not an offensive dman. 3 pts in 15 games.

Calgary kid using a (rare) legacy exemption (Dad from KW, played in Kingston a few decades ago then UW) to get into the OHL draft and then coming to our camp as a 14th rounder has to be a promising report for next camp.

Probably views at as a better league then the W. his dad played for Kingston which allowed him to enter the draft.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re done with this class with the US kids being the exception. Teams usually have a limit on signing per class and don’t like to stack up on one year. Next signing would be 8.

Luke Ellinas remains on the central scouting list at 95th. Trent swick listed at 111 and Campbell is no longer on it.

I’d think if he’s a player, he’s a player. No reason they couldn’t make room. We currently only have two 07 D signed, so unless an NCAA commit changes his mind, or we pick one up in a trade, I think if he comes to camp and impresses, there’d make room.

Well, IMHO if he does sign it does make him an easy trade asset if he doesnt make the team if the D is stacked against him.
