No surprises here, Rehkopf heading to Canada's WJC camp.

And to assume he makes the team, that would be 8/9 games without Rehkopf and Mesar. Here we goooo

So we have a 3 in 3 this weekend. I assume Carson misses at least the 3rd game? (4:00 PM start and then rush him off to Oakville? Can't see it!) Do they sit him for the 2nd game? Any thoughts?

I honestly forgot camp started next week and bought tickets for Sunday’a game. Hopefully it’s competitive

Mercer Breakout game? He’s been good all year but seems to be trusting his shot lately (was talked about during draft year). Myself and some others on the offseason board predicted a breakout year for him.

I am in the soft buy for this year and hard sell over the summer mindset.

I’d trade Martin for draft picks. Now he should really have a place on the team but he is made of glass. He gets injured every year and who knows if he will be 100% when returning. Also if the Rangers trade Motew or Schmidt then they would need to pick up a D in return or another trade.

I’d trade for Sandis Vilmanis from Sarnia. Sarnia is a bottom team and he is a 19 year old import. He has 24 points in 27 games this year. He would come pretty cheap I would think. Something like the Tomas Hamara value wise.

Second trade would be for Colton Smith from Windsor. He is a big boy at 6’3 and 215 pounds. He is a forward. Last year he had 47 points in 62 games. This year he has 6 points in 26 games. I can’t see him having much trade value. He is 19 years old.

I would keep the Rangers goalies and defence as is. For forwards I’d move Martin out and bring Vilmanis and Smith in for the third line. Sure it will bump Stark, Morey, Bottineau out of the lineup but they can swap in games. You can never have enough depth. They would be cheap options to add to the roster.

Then when the summer comes along I would trade Rehkopf. Rangers do need to stock up on some draft picks and with dealing him alone it would pay dividends down the road. Andonoski can get traded closer to the deadline. Teams would love to add a physical defenceman for a playoff run. Then Swick, Miseljevic, Pugliese and Parsons are the possible OAs next year. Keep Parsons as he would give you one of the best goalies in the league. Swick and Miseljevic are proven to be top six players while Pugliese is more of a third liner. I would trade Swick though. A PPG 6’6 forward who can skate will draw lots of trade attention.

Coach seemed happy with the way the squad played last night through two periods. Third period was a bit of a struggle. Obviously as a Ranger fan I am always critical of the mistakes made in the defensive end during the game. There are probably just as many in the opposing team end that their fans notice. Rangers are hard to beat if they keep moving their speed to win puck battles and beat the opposition to loose pucks. Having Parsons in net also made a difference. He made some great saves. The Storm has some talented players. They had a bit of a brain fart and the Rangers scored 3 quick goals that kept the game out of reach. Jussi would love to see a 60 minute effort every game but this is the OHL and it doesn't happen that often.

How about the fact that Ellinas and Morey scored? ;-)
Great goals too! But the tenacity of the "4th" line is relentless. I loved what Mercer said at the end of the game with Fixter "I love going to war with these guys every night". They are having a blast out there.

Also, for only having two 3in3 weekends, this team sure plays a lot of weekday games. Already at 29 on the year, 4 more than some teams AND 3 more this weekend.

I still think it's one of Motew or Schmidt being dealt. Martin's injuries are unfortunate, but he is what this team needs injected into the top 6. I was leaning for Schmidt to be dealt, but he was just tossing kids around last night and that comes in handy in the playoffs. Reid has really stepped up his game lately. Some big hits last night, both on Guelph players and the boards. He'll hit anything right now. I still like the idea of Vilmanis on this team. Smith is an interesting look. I'm excited to see what MM does and we can move on to the final look of this team.

I like the soft buy and both Vilmanis and Smith idea for this year but I worry about the unintended consequences. Namely, we’re going to have to move some bodies as those on the outside will be looking for playing opportunities elsewhere (Hamara).

Not sure about Smith. Can he keep up with our group?

Reading other teams forums the last few yrs, his motivation isnt quite there!
I would take a pass on him.

So the Rangers probably have the shortest possible ever 3 in 3 this weekend with 2 road game. Home to Brantford on Friday, then onto Brantford Saturday then Guelph on Sunday
